Qualifications

  • Experience advising international students and scholars on immigration matters.
  • Knowledge of SEVIS procedures and federal regulations applicable to F-1/J-1 statuses.
  • Ability to design and deliver regulatory workshops for international communities.

Responsibilities

  • Advise, counsel, and assist F-1 and J-1 students and scholars to maintain status and employment eligibility.
  • Create and maintain student records in SEVIS and report events as required.
  • Advise on logistics such as social security numbers and driver's licenses.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of federal regulations and university policies to provide timely advising.
  • Coordinate with DHS, SEVP, DOS, CBP, and USCIS regarding student requests and data fixes.
  • Design and deliver regulatory workshops for international students, scholars, and colleagues.
  • Collaborate with academic advisors to support immigration compliance during orientation and onboarding.
  • Serve on on-call rotation for emergency support related to international students.

Job Description Summary:

POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the supervision of the Director, provideadvising services to international students and scholars with F/Jnon-immigrant status on immigration and employment regulations,university resources and personal/cultural matters. Serve asDesignated School Official (DSO) and Alternate Responsible Officer(ARO).

Duties and Responsibilities:
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Advise, counsel, and assist F-1 students, J-1 students, and J-1scholars to ensure maintenance of their non-immigrant status,employment authorization, U.S. culture, academic, social, personaladjustment, etc.
  • Create, update, and maintain student and scholar records in SEVISto include reportable events as required by federalregulations.
  • Advise students on logistical matters including obtaining a socialsecurity number and applying for a U.S. driver's license/state.
  • Maintain up to date knowledge of federal regulations, SEVISprocedures, university academic policies and procedures to providetimely and comprehensive advising.
  • Liaise with relevant government agencies, including the Departmentof Homeland Security (DHS), the Student & Exchange VisitorProgram (SEVP), the Department of State (DOS), U.S. Customs andBorder Protection (CBP), and United States Citizenship &Immigration Services (USCIS) regarding student requests, datafixes, and travel.
  • Design and/or deliver regulatory workshops for internationalstudents, scholars, and relevant colleagues.
  • Communicate with academic and co-op/career advisors to supportcomprehensive international student advising.
  • Collaborate with university academic services and programmingsupport team on orientation programming as it pertains toimmigration compliance and the initial review of F and Jregulations with new students.
  • Cross train and coordinate with the International EnrollmentManagement team to develop and implement a comprehensive studentonboarding support strategy for international students. Serve withinthe emergency phone on-call rotation.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.
