Job summary

Lone Star College-University Center in The Woodlands seeks an Advisor II for Workforce Adult Education and Learning (AEL) Grant to advise and track students’ academic progress, guide degree planning, course selection, enrollment, and schedule building across campuses.

This is a temporary, grant-funded position with continuation dependent on grant funding. Travel between LS college campuses and partner locations is required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree and at least 3 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Bilingual (English/Spanish).

Responsibilities

• Oversees daily and some long-term advising caseloads for AEL program operations.
• Meets with a high volume of prospective, new, and continuing students to track progress.
• Enters, tracks and maintains data, including documents, enrollment forms, testing score sheets, spreadsheets and databases.
• Advises students on proper course selection for grant-funded non-credit certificate programs.
• Provides coaching and advising to students on skills to develop a clear and attainable education plan and ITET plan.

Job Description

PURPOSE AND SCOPE:

The Advisor II, Workforce Adult Education and Learning (AEL) Grant(G) serves as the first point of contact and resource in meetingwith, advising and tracking students' academic progress inconnection with degree completion. Position provides academicadvice and direction to students on degree planning, programrequirements, course selection and enrollment, and schedulebuilding. Educates students' on LSC's policies and state &federal rules as they relate to them. Represents Lone Star College(LSC) internally and externally. Work hours are split betweenLSC-Houston North Greenspoint, LSC-University Center @ Montgomeryand all other LSC campuses and off-site community partner locationswhere AEL classes are offered.

This is a temporary, grant-funded position. Continuation of theposition from one academic year to the next is dependent uponcontinued grant funding. Professional Development for TWC, HGAC andLSCS is required by the deadline.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

1. Oversees daily and some long-term advising caseloads for AELprogram operations. Actively maintains up-to-date knowledge of AELgrant and acts as a point of contact and liaison for internal andexternal constituents
2. Meets with high volume of prospective, new, and continuingstudents on a regular basis to track their academic progress andsuccess
3. Enters, tracks and maintains a variety of data, includingdocuments, enrollment forms, testing score sheets, spreadsheets anddatabases
4. May be responsible for ensuring and maintaining compliance withlocal/state/federal compliance of processes and documentationwithin assigned area
5. Advises students on proper course selection for allgrant-funded non-credit certificate programs including High SchoolEquivalency or GED, English as a Second Language, WorkforceEducation and Training Certificates and DevelopmentalEducation
6. Advises students on referral opportunities for transfer of AASdegrees into bachelor's degrees at the College
7. Provides student referrals on job searches and advisesgraduate's on employment in their field of study. Assists with thecareer interest assessments, career exploration processes andtools, and provides information on job search and interviewingtechniques, preparation and appropriate follow up, and indeveloping resumes and cover letters
8. Tracks students through program completion and provides data onstudents with declared workforce majors. May include success,retention, completion and graduation rates as well as other data.Aids students in completing graduation checks and applications
9. Manage and reply to all departmental communications includingRemind and any emails directed to Adult Education and Literacy in atimely manner
10. Work with Program Manager to develop best practices for A0dultEducation population based on student correspondence, advisingappointments and need
11. Takes part in and/or leads special projects as needed,including presenting informational orientation sessions related toadult-learners, first-time-in-college students and providingacademic advice and assist with the enrollment process. Most AdultEducation and Literacy Orientations will require travel betweenLone Star College Campus locations and approved off- sitelocations
12. Provides coaching and advising to students on skills to developa clear and attainable education plan and goal, includingIndividual Training Education and Career (ITEC) Plan
13. Responsible for all TWC and HGAC grant compliance standards andguidelines in advising and testing students pre- andpost-instruction in all Adult Education and Literacy Programclasses
14. Responsible for other reasonable, related duties asassigned

PHYSICAL ABILITIES:

WORK SCHEDULE AND CONDITIONS:

• Equipment used includes, PC workstation running on a LAN in aMicrosoft Windows environment, calculator, phone and other generaloffice equipment
• Interface with internal and external contacts as needed tocarry out the functions of the position
• Work is performed in a climate-controlled office with minimalexposure to safety hazards
• Some evenings and weekends may be required

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelor's degree and at least 3 years of experience, or anequivalent combination of education and experience
• Bilingual (English/Spanish)

• Experience assisting students who have unique barriers withtheir educational success
• Experience working in higher education advising
• Best Plus 2.0 Administrator certification
• Best Literacy Administrator certification
• Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE) Administrator certification

Salary

Hiring salary range is $44,793 - $51,512

Lone Star College provides a hiring salary range for all postedfull-time non-faculty positions. Where your salary offer would fallin that range is determined by your related experience andeducation.
