Job summary

Lilly seeks an Advisor/Senior Advisor of Automation Science in NYC to own the scientific integrity of automated platforms used in Discovery Oncology. You’ll bridge bench science and engineering, defining validation standards, and guiding QC for high-throughput workflows.

You’ll mentor teams and collaborate with automation engineers to ensure scientific soundness across platforms. This onsite role reports to the AVP - Automation and is based in New York, NY.

Qualifications

• PhD or MS with extensive experience in biology/biochemistry/pharmacology.
• Experience designing, validating, or troubleshooting automated workflows.
• Strong understanding of experimental design, controls, and statistical validity for HTS.
• Able to translate experimental requirements into automatable steps with engineers.

Responsibilities

• Own the scientific design and validation of automated workflows.
• Review new automated workflows before production rollout with engineers.
• Lead investigations to distinguish biology vs. systems issues in automation.
• Set platform-wide standards for assay validation, controls, and data quality.
• Design and build user-facing tools (UI/CLI) for configuring automated runs.
• Collaborate with data/ informatics to capture data for interpretation.
• Evaluate new assays for automation feasibility and platform needs.
• Mentor scientists and engineers on automated workflows.
