Columbia University in the City of New York seeks an Advising Dean in the Berick Center for Student Advising to counsel undergraduate students across Columbia College and SEAS, guide academic planning, and connect students with campus resources.

Reporting to the Associate Dean, you will lead first-generation programming, oversee advising, and collaborate with faculty and partner offices; some evenings and weekends are expected.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent required.
  • A minimum of three years of relevant experience required.
  • Evening and weekend work may be required for special programs, individual student, student group, and team outreach and to maintain a level of excellence in work responsibilities.

Responsibilities

  • Student advising duties include counseling students about academic policies, programs, and options; assisting students in the development of meaningful educational plans; and supporting students by helping them to identify and assess alternatives and the impact of their decisions.
  • Resource referral duties include maintaining a comprehensive knowledge about all academic policies and procedures, core requirements, pre-professional information, and all non-major specific information.
  • Programming duties include supporting the programming efforts of the CSA and large-scale Columbia College and SEAS programming efforts such as first-generation student programming, the First-Year First-in-Family Seminar, First-in-Family Peer Advisers, First-in-Family Career Outings, First-in-Family Theater Outings, summer advising sessions, New Student Orientation Program, Family Weekend, Days on Campus, Class Day and specialty programming.
  • Oversight of academic progress duties include maintaining current records on advisees (i.e., academic plans, leaves of absence, readmission, summer study, academic disciplinary reports, student petitions, requests for incompletes, graduation clearance, etc.), maintaining the First-in-Family social media accounts and website.
