The Lifeguard performs lifeguard duties while following all park safety and operating procedures. This position is safety-focused and involves a lot of guest interaction and a customer service-oriented mindset to provide a wonderful experience to everyone who comes to enjoy a day at the park.

We are currently looking for a:

Adventureland Park - Lifeguard - J1 Student

Roles & Responsibilities:

This position is for J1 International Students Only

1. Perform lifeguard duties while following all park safety and operating procedures.
2. Participate in department audits and required in-service skills training sessions.
3. Work required hours scheduled and adhere to all labor laws.
4. Enforce general park, ride/attraction, and safety rules.
5. Participate in park clean up, including but not limited to picking up trash, straightening chairs, cleaning pools, stacking tubes, wiping tables, and pressure washing.
6. Communicate Park information to guests regarding proper attraction procedures, directions, accessibility, and park policies.
7. Communicate appropriate park or team-related concerns to Leadership Team.
8. Keep designated work areas clean and safe of trip hazards.
9. Assist with park clean up during pre and post operations.
10. Any other duties assigned by leadership.

Education and Experience:

1. No education requirements for this position.
2. Previous work experience is not required.
3. Must successfully complete the Ellis & Associates Lifeguard Training Program before becoming a lifeguard at Adventureland Resort. All Lifeguard candidates will be required to obtain the Ellis Lifeguard Certification instructional handbook and pass all certification requirements (Swim 50 yards doing front crawl or breaststroke; Retrieve 10-lb brick from 5 ft of water).

Language: Ability to read, write, and speak fluent English; Spanish or other bilingual language skills are a plus.

Requirements:

1. Must be at least 15 years of age to comply with Iowa Child Labor Laws.
2. Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
3. Demonstrated ability to successfully perform all swim tests, water rescues, assists.
4. Ability to comply with all uniform policies.
5. Must possess a safety-oriented mindset and understand the importance of complying with all Federal, State, and local regulations regarding aquatics safety standards.
6. Must demonstrate a willingness to learn and ability to follow instructions.
7. Must be guest-focused and work well with other team members and supervisors.
8. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Physical Requirements:

1. Ability to swim 50 yards using front crawl/freestyle or breaststroke (Deep Guard = 200 yards).
2. Ability to retrieve a 10-pound brick from at least 5 feet of water (Deep Guard = 6 or more ft).
3. Ability to stand or walk for extended periods of time.
4. Ability to swim, wade, and stand (sometimes in moderate currents).
5. Ability to frequently kneel, stoop, bend, squat, twist or reach above shoulder-level.
6. Ability to use hands to grasp, finger, handle, or feel.
7. Ability to carry, push, pull, lift, and hold objects weighing 50 or more pounds.

Vision Requirements:

1. Must possess 20/25 correct vision (corrective lens, if required, must be worn while on duty).
2. Specific vision abilities are required for this job, including close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
3. Ability to see differences between colors and brightness.
4. Ability to see details of objects that are more than a few feet away.

Working Conditions:

1. Constant exposure to outdoor (or indoor) aquatics environments.
2. Constant exposure to variable outside (or indoor) temperatures, including high heat, direct sun, cold, humidity, dust, rain, and other weather conditions.
3. Regularly subjected to water and pool chemicals.
4. Subject to frequent interruptions and requests that may require reprioritization of activities.
