Job Description

Job Summary

The Director will primarily work from home but must maintain an office in the Chicago/Midwest Region. Residence within a commutable distance is required.

WGU Advancement aims to make workforce-based education affordable and attainable by increasing access and innovating learning through philanthropic partnerships. Since 1997, WGU has redefined access to post-secondary credentials, promoting equity, affordability, and achievement.

The Advancement Director manages a portfolio of 100-125 prospects, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding gifts of $100,000 and above, involving travel and online meetings. The role requires independent and collaborative work with various stakeholders, with a focus on developing long-term donor relationships.

Responsibilities

• Manage a prospect portfolio, documenting all interactions and strategies.
• Develop proposals and pitch ideas to prospective donors.
• Build relationships and develop engagement opportunities.
• Qualify and cultivate prospects capable of giving $100K+.
• Assist in setting and achieving fundraising goals.
• Coordinate with university teams for proposal and report preparation.
• Report donor activity and strategy to leadership.
• Adhere to organizational policies and maintain a positive attitude.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Understanding of advancement programs and IRS gift rules.
• Excellent communication and presentation skills.
• Entrepreneurial and problem-solving mindset.

Qualifications

Minimum: Bachelor’s degree, 6+ years in major gift fundraising, experience with six-figure gifts, residence near Chicago.

Preferred: Broad project management knowledge.

Physical Requirements

• Sitting for extended periods, lifting up to 15 pounds, travel up to 25%, some weekend work.
