University of Alabama at Birmingham seeks a Substance Abuse Counselor II-HSOM Psych to conduct psychosocial assessments, establish treatment plans, and provide individual and group counseling for substance use and co-occurring mental health needs. The role involves intake interviews, crisis intervention, and coordinating care with community partners.

A Master’s degree plus licensure within 30 months is required; experience in addiction services is preferred.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree required or higher in a relevant field.
• State licensure within 30 months of eligibility with DMH (see Licenses/Certifications).
• Experience in substance use/mental health settings preferred.
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills.

Responsabilités

• Perform psychosocial assessments and develop individualized treatment plans.
• Conduct intake interviews, obtain histories, and determine treatment eligibility.
• Provide individual and group counseling and drug education.
• Maintain thorough records, prepare reports, and coordinate referrals.
• Respond to crises and provide case management for patients, including methadone maintenance.
