Job summary

Orion Placement in Boston is seeking an audit professional ready to advance from staff to senior level. You will perform audit procedures across diverse client engagements, own audit areas, and contribute to high-quality work papers and financial statements.

With 2+ years in public accounting and CPA progress preferred, you will collaborate with seasoned managers and partners while enjoying a flexible hybrid schedule after onboarding and client needs.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Accounting or a closely related field.
  • 2+ years of public accounting audit experience with at least two busy seasons preferred.
  • CPA eligibility or active progress toward CPA certification is preferred.
  • Experience with GAAP, financial statements, and internal controls is expected.

Responsibilities

  • Perform audit and assurance procedures across multiple client engagements.
  • Take increasing ownership of assigned audit areas from planning through completion.
  • Prepare clear, accurate, and well documented audit workpapers.
  • Test account balances, transactions, internal controls, and supporting documentation.
  • Assist with the preparation of financial statements, footnote disclosures, and other engagement deliverables.
  • Develop an understanding of client businesses, processes, and risks.

Pay:

$80,000.00 - $92,000.00 per year

Location:

This opportunity supports our Boston and Quincy, Massachusetts offices, with the position posted in Boston to reach the broader market. The first several weeks are expected to be primarily in office for onboarding, training, and meeting the team, followed by a flexible hybrid arrangement based on engagement needs. Some client fieldwork throughout Massachusetts may be required.

Note:

Candidates should have 2+ years of public accounting audit experience, ideally representing at least two completed busy seasons. Commercial real estate audit experience, CPA eligibility or active progress toward CPA certification, and exposure to nonprofit or employee benefit plan audits are highly valued.

Job Description
  • Perform audit and assurance procedures across multiple client engagements.
  • Take increasing ownership of assigned audit areas from planning through completion.
  • Prepare clear, accurate, and well documented audit workpapers.
  • Test account balances, transactions, internal controls, and supporting documentation.
  • Assist with the preparation of financial statements, footnote disclosures, and other engagement deliverables.
  • Develop a strong understanding of client businesses, financial reporting processes, risks, and internal controls.
  • Communicate with clients to obtain documentation, answer questions, and keep assigned audit work moving forward.
  • Identify accounting, audit, and documentation issues and communicate them to seniors and managers.
  • Research accounting and audit matters involving GAAP and generally accepted auditing standards.
  • Manage multiple assignments while meeting engagement deadlines and quality expectations.
  • Support newer staff and interns as your experience and responsibilities grow.
  • Participate in client fieldwork and collaborate closely with engagement teams throughout Massachusetts.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Accounting or a closely related field.
  • 2+ years of public accounting audit experience with at least two busy seasons preferred.
  • Working knowledge of GAAP, audit procedures, financial statements, and internal controls.
  • Strong attention to detail, organization, analytical ability, and written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a client service environment.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and experience with audit engagement software.
  • CPA eligibility or active progress toward CPA certification is preferred.
  • Commercial real estate audit experience is highly valued.
  • Nonprofit or employee benefit plan audit experience is a plus.
