Our vast transportation design experience allows us to anticipate and address potential issues related to environmental, right-of-way, construction, utilities, safety, or other factors. We apply our creative and technical expertise to design transportation solutions that keep people, businesses, and communities moving.

We are currently seeking candidates for the position of Advanced Roadway Design Engineer for our Transportation team in North Carolina or Ohio.

Annual Compensation: $110,000-155,000, based on experience, certifications, and regional market standards.

Roadway Design Engineer Essential Functions:

  • Perform engineering design tasks for roadway projects from preliminary to final design.
  • Develop specifications, cost estimates, and prepare final bid packages.
  • Establish working relationships and contact with client technical staff and project managers, especially in NCDOT, local governments, and private clients.
  • Provide engineering design services for traditional design-bid-build projects and design-build transportation projects.
  • Mentor and assist junior engineers in developing final design plans, including cross sections, traffic control, drainage, signing, and pavement markings plans.
  • Coordinate design activities and meetings between design staff, subcontractors, and client managers.
  • Participate in project decisions regarding technical approaches, cost, and scheduling performance.
  • Identify schedule and cost variances and develop recommendations for corrective action.
  • Complete tasks within schedule and budget as part of multidisciplinary teams.
  • Actively participate and serve in leadership positions in transportation-related organizations such as ASHE, ASCE, DBIA, etc.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Roadway Design Engineer Essential Credentials:

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering required.
  • P.E. license required; North Carolina PE license is preferred. Successful candidates are expected to obtain their NC PE within the first year of hire.

Qualifications:

  • 10 to 20+ years of progressive engineering experience with broad knowledge in transportation and roadway design.
  • At least 5 years of project management experience.
  • Experience working on DOT design projects is required; experience with multiple DOTs is a plus.
  • Proficiency with MicroStation, Geopak, OpenRoads Designer software.
