Job summary

UMC Health System in Texas is seeking a Registered Radiologist Assistant (R.R.A.) to perform advanced imaging procedures and patient assessments under the supervision of a Radiologist, in compliance with Texas Medical Board regulations and ARRT standards. The R.R.A.

supports radiologists across departments, mentors staff, and ensures safe, high‑quality patient care. Requirements include a bachelor’s degree, graduation from an accredited R.R.A.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.
  • Graduate of an accredited Registered Radiologist Assistant (R.R.A.) educational program.
  • Current certification as an ARRT Radiologic Technologist (R.T.(R)).
  • Current ARRT Registered Radiologist Assistant (R.R.A.) credential.
  • Current American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) certification in Radiography (R.T.(R)).
  • BLS certification within 30 days of hire.
  • ACLS preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform advanced radiologic procedures delegated by the supervising Radiologist, including fluoroscopic examinations, arthrography, image-guided procedures, drain studies, and other permitted procedures.
  • Obtain and document focused patient histories, perform assessments, verify patient identity, and evaluate exam readiness.
  • Explain imaging procedures to patients and families, provide pre- and post-procedure education, and obtain informed consent when delegated.
  • Assist Radiologists during procedures by preparing sterile fields, positioning patients, and monitoring status.
  • Work independently within delegated authority in Emergency Department, Trauma Center, ORs, ICUs, and imaging areas.
  • Maintain proficiency in fluoroscopic and diagnostic imaging equipment and adhere to ALARA radiation safety principles.
  • Document all patient care activities and procedural information in EMR/RIS.
  • Collaborate with Radiologists, nursing staff, and departments to promote efficient patient throughput and high-quality care.
  • Contribute to departmental quality improvement and regulatory compliance.
