Job Summary

The Advanced Engineer (Chemical, Materials) in Avient's Fiber-Line division will develop and deliver value through processing and coating approaches for fibers, including technical fibers. Responsibilities include designing, prototyping, and scaling technical fibers for markets such as fiber optic cables, aerospace/defense, transportation, energy, construction, consumer, and industrial sectors. The role involves developing test plans, conducting trials at various scales, analyzing data, and communicating results to internal teams and external stakeholders, including customers and partners. Collaboration across teams and with external entities is essential.

Ideal Candidate Profile

The candidate should have a solid understanding of technical fibers and coatings, manufacturing processes, and design principles, with a particular interest in formulation and coatings. Basic knowledge of composite material characterization and mechanical testing is also required. The ability to work independently and as part of a team is crucial.

Essential Functions

• Lead and contribute to fiber product and process development innovation
• Design and conduct experiments at lab, pilot, and commercial scales
• Analyze data and draw conclusions
• Communicate technical information effectively to various stakeholders
• Manage multiple projects, prioritize tasks, and collaborate for timely delivery
• Identify raw materials and fabrication processes to meet customer needs
• Support scale-up and commercialization efforts
• Partner with manufacturing to establish specifications and testing requirements
• Serve as a technical expert with customers, partners, and manufacturing
• Conduct work safely, ethically, and responsibly
• Travel as needed for meetings and trials
• Perform other duties as assigned

Education and Experience

• Bachelor's in Chemical Engineering or equivalent experience
• Master's in Chemical Engineering or equivalent experience
• Experience with DOE (Design of Experiments), EH&S, cross-functional projects, and R&D/Technology roles

Environmental, Health, Safety & Security

• Compliance with all EHS&S requirements and reporting incidents promptly
• Includes physical and cyber security considerations
