In Person Position

The Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) delivers medical care to a wide variety of patients. This position is 100% in person. The APRN will independently assess and follow General GI patients in UHealth clinics in Sole Mia. In the future, we may add in general hepatology patients, e.g., fatty liver. This position is M-F, and requires 8 half days in outpatient ambulatory clinics in Sole Mia which is located in North Miami, FL. The APRN also may be involved in interpretation and dissemination of results to patients for fibroscans performed by the lab.

Responsibilities
  • Recognizes deviations from normal in the physical assessment. Works in collaboration with a physician in formulating treatment plans for health problems and follow-up.
  • Writes prescriptions for medication, blood products based upon laboratory results, routine diagnostic and follow-up studies, therapeutic measures, and post-discharge care in accordance with written practice protocols.
  • Initiates and facilitates clinical research protocols and coordinates patient care with research staff.
  • Obtains complete medical history independent of supervision by the physician.
  • See patients in follow-up in between infusions and post-procedure as necessary.
  • Initiate and Maintain infusion orders (therapy plans) for non-chemo infusions as per protocol.
  • Read and assess fibro scan studies provide interpretation, once trained.
  • Orders appropriate laboratory tests according to practice guidelines.
  • Develops, implements and evaluates a plan of care that is appropriate for the patient and family.
  • Actively participates in quality assurance programs and peer review activities.
  • Responsible for aiding physicians in the care and treatment of patients.
  • Provides medical support to staff, triaging and implementing care in a knowledgeable and skillful manner, as evidenced by team feedback and documentation in medical records.
  • Administers nursing assessments to include performing examinations, giving injections and assessing a patient's health status.
  • Assess severity of patient's condition, determining and directing patients to appropriate medical providers.
  • Provide peer-to-peer reviews with insurance carriers in support of patients medications.
  • Consents patients for GI procedures, and places orders for procedures and preps.
  • Maintain EMR inbox and close encounters in a timely fashion according to UMMG guidelines.
  • Respond to patient inquiries and requests, and communicate results to patients in coordination with our back office Nurses, Medical Assistants and Secretaries.

CORE QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Master’s degree in relevant field

Certification and Licensing: Valid State of Florida APRN License

Experience: Minimum of 2 years in GI/hepatology experience in a clinical setting as an NP/PA

Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes:

  • Ability to exercise sound judgment in making critical decisions.
  • Skill in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail.
  • Ability to analyze, organize and prioritize work under pressure while meeting deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently and/or in a collaborative environment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form.
  • Ensuring compliance with local, state and federal health regulations.
  • Knowledge of and ability to apply professional medical principles, procedures, and techniques.
  • Performs in a tactful and professional manner.
  • CITI Certification for Clinical Research Study participation.
  • Previous experience with EPIC EMR software, or demonstrated ability to manage patients in EMR.
