Chemotherapy Treatment Unit (CTU)
Full Time

The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) delivers medical care to a wide variety of patients. The APP examines and treats patients independently and collaborates with other healthcare professionals. Responsibilities include managing illnesses and injuries, disease prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and recovery. The APP may prescribe medications and order diagnostic tests, advise patients on ongoing care, and work within the oncology service line in both acute and outpatient settings.

Job Functions
  1. Provide chemotherapy treatment unit (CTU) coverage to main and satellite locations, including on-call and cross coverage.
  2. Educate new and ongoing oncology patients.
  3. Collaborate with physicians and other providers regarding patient care.
  4. Ensure proper medical documentation.
  5. Respond to emergencies or rapid responses.
  6. Transfer patients to appropriate physicians, specialists, or hospitals for continued care.
  7. Work with pharmacy and nursing staff to optimize care quality.
  8. Refer patients to support services as needed.
  9. Precept or mentor nursing staff and students.
  10. Assist in managing family dynamics and coping mechanisms during patient care.
  11. Promote evidence-based nursing practices.
  12. Participate in quality improvement and research projects.
  13. Assist in optimizing infusion center workflows and provide clinical care as needed.
  14. Conduct monthly educational in-services for staff.
  15. Perform patient triage and determine urgency of evaluation.
  16. Manage symptoms related to oncologic treatments.
  17. Communicate daily with triage nurses regarding patient care needs.
Outpatient Oncology Clinics and Hospital Centers
  1. Travel to main campus and satellites for patient care, including new patient visits, follow-ups, survivorship, and walk-ins.
  2. Collaborate with healthcare team members.
  3. Provide patient and family education on disease, treatment, and lifestyle modifications.
  4. Ensure proper transfer of patient information and documentation.
  5. Participate in relevant meetings and quality activities.
  6. Provide coverage across various locations as needed.
  7. Promote evidence-based practice.

Core/Department Qualifications

Education: Master’s Degree or higher

Certification and Licensing:
  • Florida APRN or Physician Assistant license
  • Graduate of MSN or PA program
  • Board certification from recognized organization (ANCC, AANP, NCCPA)
  • Acute Care Nurse Practitioner Certification preferred
  • Current BLS and ACLS certifications
  • CITI certification within three months of employment
  • ONS Chemotherapy and Biotherapy certification upon hire or during orientation
Experience
  • Minimum 2 years relevant advanced practice nursing experience preferred
  • Experience in hematology/oncology, acute, or ICU care preferred
  • Participation in professional development activities such as certifications, conferences, and publications
Knowledge, Skills, and Attitudes
  • Sound judgment in critical decision-making
  • Attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to analyze, organize, prioritize, and work under pressure
  • Effective communication skills in oral and written forms
