Job summary

Highland Rivers Health seeks a Physician or Nurse Practitioner to work in a Crisis Stabilization Unit providing 24/7 services and direct patient care, including diagnostic assessments and medication management.

This PRN position requires 12-hour shifts with a minimum of 2 and a maximum of 5 shifts per month, serving individuals with behavioral health and substance use problems. The role includes comprehensive assessments and emergency management within a collaborative team.

Qualifications

• Licensed physician (MD/DO) or NP currently licensed in Georgia.
• PRN schedule requires 2–5 shifts per month with 12-hour shifts.

Responsibilities

• Perform comprehensive physical and mental health assessments.
• Identify factors affecting mental health and relate physiology to psychiatric conditions.
• Collect and analyze data from multiple sources using appropriate assessment techniques.
• Demonstrate effective clinical interviewing to build therapeutic relationships.
• Order and interpret relevant diagnostic tests and labs.
• Identify typical/atypical presentations of medical conditions in psychiatric care.
• Develop treatment plans for mental health, substance use, and psychiatric disorders.
• Prescribe medications based on clinical indicators and educate about use, effects, and risks.
• Manage psychiatric emergencies by assessing risk and coordinating care.
• Apply therapeutic communication strategies based on evidence.
• Complete and maintain all legal forms for individuals on the unit.

Job Summary: The Physician or Nurse Practitioner will be working in a Crisis Stabilization Unit that provides 24/7 services with individuals with behavioral health and substance use problems. The Physician or Nurse Practitioner will provide direct service to individuals, such as diagnostic assessments, and evaluation and management of medications.

This is a PRN position which requires a minimum of 2 shifts and no more than 5 shifts per month. This position will require 12-hour shifts.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

• Perform comprehensive physical and mental health assessment in order to obtain and accurately document relevant health history.
• Identify and analyze factors that affect mental health, and the relationship between normal physiology and specific system alterations associated with mental health problems, psychiatric disorders, and treatment.
• Involve the individual serve in collecting and analyzing data from multiple sources, using assessment techniques that are appropriate for the individual served.
• Demonstrate effective clinical interviewing skills that facilitate the development of a therapeutic relationship.
• Order and interpret findings of relevant diagnostic and laboratory testing.
• Identify typical and atypical presentations of medical conditions from psychiatric disorders, and apply standardized taxonomy systems to the diagnosis of mental health problems and psychiatric disorders.
• Develop a treatment plan for mental health problems, substance use and psychiatric disorders based on biopsychosocial theories, evidence-based standards of care, and practice guidelines.
• Prescribe medications based on clinical indicators of an individual's status, including results of diagnostic and lab testing as appropriate, and educate individual in the appropriate use of medications, intended effects and potential adverse effects of treatment options.
• Manage psychiatric emergencies by determining the level of risk, and initiating and coordinating effective emergency care.
• Apply therapeutic communication strategies based on theories and research evidence.
• Completes and maintains all legal forms for individuals on the unit.
• Other duties as assigned.
