Job summary

Barnes-Jewish Hospital, part of BJC HealthCare, is seeking a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to join the Vascular Surgery team. This role offers advanced clinical and surgical opportunities in an academic medical center, with a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment and a focus on exceptional patient care.

Work schedule includes 3-12 shifts per week starting at 05:30 with limited weekend coverage.

Qualifications

• Master's Degree in Nursing required.
• Licensed APRN in Missouri required.
• National APRN Board Certification required.
• Experience: less than 2 years.
• Preferred: 2-5 years experience.
• Preferred: Doctorate in Nursing (DNP/PhD).

Responsibilities

• Provides patient- and family-centered care in an inpatient vascular surgery setting.
• Assess, diagnose, treat, educate, and coordinate care for acute and chronic conditions.
• Collaborate with surgeons, residents, fellows, and multidisciplinary teams.
• Maintain professional standards and participate in quality initiatives.
• Safety-sensitive role requiring constant alertness.

Position Details

• Dedicated Vascular Surgery Advanced Practice Provider role
• 3-12’s per week (0530 start time), limited weekend coverage
• Comprehensive onboarding and training program designed to support success withing the Vascular Surgery procedures
• Collaborative practice environment with vascular surgeons, residents, fellows, and multidisciplinary care teams
• Strongly Preferred: Vascular Surgery experience
• Preferred: Experience in a high-acuity Surgical ICU setting

Role Purpose

The nurse practitioner functions within their scope of practice as a healthcare provider, working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary health team to provide comprehensive care to patients and families across practice settings. They demonstrate a high degree of clinical expertise in working with patients with acute and chronic illnesses commonly encountered within the inpatient setting. The nurse practitioner demonstrates an advanced level of clinical knowledge, communication, interdisciplinary collaboration, professionalism, and systems-based practice. They work with administration staff, nurses, physicians, medical/surgical trainees, and other staff to assure safe, effective, quality patient care.Minimum Board Certification(s):BJH: Adult-Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner (AGPCNP), Adult Nurse Practitioner (ANP), or Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP- with appropriate experience)Preferred Board Certification(s): BJH: Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (AGACNP) or Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (ACNP)

Responsibilities

• Provides compassionate, appropriate, and effective patient and family-centered care for health recovery, illness prevention, treatment of critically ill, or end-of-life care.
• Responsible for assessment, diagnosis, treatment, management, education, health promotion, and care coordination for patients and families with acute and chronic health needs in an academic inpatient setting.
• Communicates and collaborates effectively with patients, families, physicians, medical/surgical trainees, and other health professionals.
• Demonstrates the highest level of accountability for professional practice by participating in professional development, quality initiative/performance activities, and implementing standards of care within area of specialization.
• BJC has determined this is a safety-sensitive position. The ability to work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner is an essential function of this job.
