Advanced Practice Provider – Surgical Cutaneous Oncology

The ideal candidate is an Advanced Practice Provider (Advanced Practice Nurse or Physician Assistant) with at least 1 year of experience in oncology or surgery. Exceptional new graduates with a focused interest will also be considered.

Medical Knowledge

Definition: Synthesis of pathophysiology, patient presentation, and the management of oncologic conditions through medical, surgical, and radiotherapy approaches.

  • Demonstrates in-depth oncology-specific and general medical-surgical knowledge.
  • Provides rational explanations for clinical decisions based on guidelines, science, and experience.
  • Contributes to research efforts by staying updated on protocols within their tumor group and identifying potential trial candidates.
Patient Care

Definition: The ability to assess all aspects of a patient’s oncologic health, including health promotion, symptom management, disease prevention, psychosocial care, and involving support networks.

  • Performs comprehensive health histories and physical exams to identify health problems and initiates appropriate actions.
  • Interprets clinical findings and develops individualized care plans specific to each tumor group.
  • Educates patients and families on all aspects of oncology care, side effect management, and psychological support.
Practice-Based Learning and Improvement

Definition: Engaging in critical analysis of practice experiences, literature, and resources for self and practice improvement.

  • Identifies learning needs through self-assessment, collaboration, peer review, and performance evaluations.
  • Participates in continuing education and shares knowledge with colleagues.
  • Applies research findings to clinical practice.
Interprofessional Collaboration and Communication Skills

Definition: Proficiency in working with a multidisciplinary team, patients, and families, with effective communication skills.

  • Communicates effectively with healthcare team members.
  • Documents care plans and clinical information accurately and promptly.
  • Participates in team meetings, committees, and tumor boards to promote interdisciplinary care.
