Job Summary

The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) collaborates with a multidisciplinary healthcare team and is service aligned, managing a defined patient population in the outpatient setting. This role emphasizes general, episodic, and preventive care while delivering patient-centered services. A strong foundation in evidence-based practice and education is essential, as the APP ensures adherence to clinical pathways, protocols, and fosters an environment of safe, high-quality care. The provider will demonstrate advanced medical knowledge, clinical and technical proficiency, sound clinical judgment, effective professional communication, and timely, compliant documentation. Additionally, the provider actively engages in professional development, competency validation, and contributes to the continuous improvement of patient care standards.

DEPARTMENT SUMMARY

Since its inception in 1974, our division has been dedicated to the comprehensive care of children and young adults with nutritional, gastrointestinal, or liver disorders. Our mission is to provide family-centered, state-of-the-art treatment for these disorders, to foster new discoveries that will change the manner in which they are prevented or treated in the future, and to train the next generation of physicians to become experts in our field.

Consistently recognized by the U.S. News and World Report survey as being among the best clinical programs in the nation, the Division has developed several programs of clinical excellence that are multi-disciplinary and intimately linked to the research and educational missions.

Our goal is to also provide exceptional care for children in their own communities when possible, and we now have satellite outpatient programs in seven different sites across Tennessee.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Obtains and documents a health history; performs and documents complete, system-focused, or symptom-specific physical examination, assessment and plan of care.
• In collaboration, provides healthcare services for primary, acute and complex care of patients and manages patients' overall care, identifying expected outcomes for diagnoses.
• Orders, performs, interprets and collects data using appropriate assessment techniques, relevant supporting diagnostic information and diagnostic procedures where indicated.
• Forms differential diagnoses and treats acute and chronic conditions.
• Prescribes therapeutic interventions for both pharmacologic, non-pharmacologic, needed to achieve expected outcomes.
• Utilizes evidence-based, approved practice protocols in planning and implementing care.
• Initiates appropriate referrals and consultations.
• Provides specialty specific consultation services upon request and within scope of practice.
• Facilitates the patient's transition between and within health care settings.
