Summary

The Advanced Practice Provider will provide medical care for patients under the direct supervision of the MD for Nash UNC Specialty Services or designated backup physicians, in accordance with North Carolina Law. The provider will participate in patient care as determined by the supervising physician, adhering to applicable law, hospital regulations, and delineation of privileges, while ensuring no actions outside the scope of practice occur. A supervising physician or backup physician is available at all times via telephone or pager, with contact numbers held by the Medical Staff Office and hospital operators.

Responsibilities

• Performs a complete evaluation on new patients and consults.
• Performs focused history and chief complaint for all follow‑up patient visits.
• Formulates new and modifies current health management plans.
• Evaluates and reevaluates patient condition and makes recommendations accordingly.

• Maintains medical records.
• Coordinates care.
• Provides patient referrals as needed.
• Judges about patient census.
• Provides quality care.
• Manages patient care requirements.
• Functions as a float team member when needed.
• Completes discharge paperwork.
• Works with other Heart Center providers.
• Demonstrates the ability to handle multiple patient care requests.
• Supervises patients for Pharmacological and Treadmill Stress Tests.
• Completes and manages EHR documentation.
• Keeps continuing education, licenses, and certifications current.
• Complies with policies and procedures.

Education Requirements

• Bachelor's – Nursing from an approved program (for Nurse Practitioner).
• Master's – Nursing with completion of a post‑graduate Nurse Practitioner program.
• Master's – Other with completion of a Nurse Practitioner program.
• Master's – Post‑master's Nurse Practitioner Program.
• Preferred Education for Physician Assistant: Bachelor's degree from an approved, accredited program and certification; if licensed in North Carolina after June 1, 1994, completion of a licensing examination.

Licensure/Certification Requirements

• RN – Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in North Carolina.
• Nurse Practitioner – Current license to practice as a Nurse Practitioner in North Carolina.
• National certification as a Nurse Practitioner.
• Physician Assistant – Current certification to practice as a Physician Assistant.
• BCLS – Recertification required every 2 years.
• ACLS – Recertification required every 2 years.

Professional Experience Requirements

• 4 years of experience in Healthcare/Medical – as a Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner.
