Position Overview

The Advanced Practice Provider – Palliative Care (NP/PA) works in collaboration with physician sponsors to deliver high-quality care to patients within a specialized oncology and palliative care setting. This role includes outpatient and infusion care, assessment, care planning, prescribing, and care coordination. The APP functions both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team to support continuity of care and improve patient outcomes. No nights, weekends, or holidays.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Practice

  • Assess and examine patients; gather medical histories
  • Order and interpret labs and radiological studies
  • Develop treatment plans and approve regimens within scope
  • Prescribe medications per state regulations and protocols
  • Provide patient education and counseling on diagnoses and treatment plans
  • Assist in obtaining consents for therapies
  • Document care in the EMR and prepare H&Ps, progress notes, and correspondence
  • Coordinate continuity of care and referrals across departments and facilities
  • Identify research trial candidates and collaborate with research staff
  • Triage and manage patient needs between appointments
  • Review pathology and coordinate care with appropriate departments
  • Participate in orientation and training of new staff as assigned

Infusion Supervision

  • Provide clinical oversight for patients receiving treatments in infusion
  • Monitor labs and clear patients for treatment
  • Respond to emergency situations in the clinic and infusion areas
  • Serve as a mentor/resource for infusion nursing staff

Professional Practice

  • Demonstrate reliability, flexibility, and punctuality
  • Actively pursue continued education and accept feedback professionally
  • Build collaborative relationships with multidisciplinary team members
  • Maintain professional demeanor and appearance
  • Participate in meetings, tumor boards, and professional training
  • Adhere to clinic policies and safety procedures

Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Current advanced practice licensure/certification in Tennessee
  • If NP, must also hold RN license for Tennessee
  • Certificate to prescribe and current DEA required
  • BCLS certification required; ACLS preferred
  • Experience with oncology or palliative care preferred

Skills & Abilities

  • Strong organizational, follow-up, and communication skills
  • Ability to handle multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Competence in clinical decision-making and documentation
  • Proficiency in word processing and email
  • Ability to interface effectively with internal staff and external facilities
  • Experience with radiology peer-to-peer processes preferred
