Join the University of Chicago Medicine as an Advanced Practice Provider (Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant) in the Surgical Intensive Care Unit.
In this role, you will provide direct primary health care to patients, collaborating with consulting physicians and the multidisciplinary health team according to privileges approved by the credentials committee. Responsibilities include identifying, managing, and/or referring health problems; conducting health assessments; developing patient care plans; taking patient histories; performing physical exams; recording data; screening patients for hospital admission; writing progress notes; preparing patient workups; obtaining psychosocial histories; developing therapeutic relationships; ordering diagnostic tests; explaining procedures; evaluating care outcomes; participating in practice arrangements; making patient care decisions; prescribing medications; delegating tasks; collaborating with families and community resources; pursuing professional development; participating in quality assurance; and potentially engaging in health education and research activities. You may also serve as a resource for clinical skills and participate in teaching students and residents. Practice privileges are detailed in each APN's Delineation of Privileges.

The Nurse Practitioner manages a caseload of patients, exercises autonomous decision-making, and provides comprehensive care, including assessment, diagnosis, treatment, family support, education, consultation, and research within the Medical Intensive Care Unit.

The Physician Assistant provides healthcare services under supervision, including taking histories, conducting exams, diagnosing, ordering tests, assisting in surgeries, and exercising medical decision-making autonomy.
