The Medical College of Wisconsin, in Milwaukee, WI, seeks a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to provide specialty inpatient care on weekends within the Trauma and Acute Care Surgery program at Froedtert Hospital.

This Advanced Practice Provider will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team, perform procedures as privileged, participate in rounds, rounds, and care coordination, and contribute to quality improvement and teaching efforts.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Nursing (APN) or PA degree (ARC-PA) required.
• Wisconsin RN license and Wisconsin APRN/PA license required.
• ACLS/BLS required within 6 months of start date; ATLS training also required.
• DEA registration and certification by a national nursing/PA organization (AGACNP/AGPCNP/Family NP for APN or NCCPA for PA) required.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams in diagnosis and treatment for surgical inpatient care.
• Document progress notes, procedure notes, admission and transfer orders accurately and promptly.
• Order, perform, and interpret screening tests and communicate results.
• Attend rounds with Trauma team and participate in quality improvement activities.
• Coordinate handoffs from ICU to floor teams and support discharge planning.

Position Summary

The Medical College of Wisconsin’s Department/Division/Program of Trauma and Acute Care Surgery is seeking a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to provide specialty medical care within the inpatient setting on weekends. This position is located in Milwaukee, WI at Froedtert Hospital. The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) works as a member of a multidisciplinary health care team who will contribute to excellence in program administration, patient care, patient safety, research, quality improvement, and teaching.

Position Highlights

Collaborates with interdisciplinary health care teams in diagnosis and treatment of conditions requiring surgical intervention in inpatient environment as a member of the Trauma team. Writes accurate and timely progress notes, procedure notes, and/or admission and transfer orders. Order, perform, and interpret screening and diagnostic procedures and tests, and appropriately communicates and documents information. Privileged to perform procedures beyond core as identified by the trauma/critical care surgery services. Facilitates and communicates with patient, family and staff to promote continuity of care across the continuum of care. Attend required training and meets key regulatory requirements, including those of the privileging institution, CMS, and the Joint Commission. Evaluates quality outcomes for the patients receiving care of this team through participation in the development of quality indicators and outcomes dashboard. Acquires information on the most current development and trends in the Physician Assistant field and/or Nurse Practitioner field, through educational programs, in-services, professional associates, and current literature. Attends daily rounds with faculty and Trauma physician team, presents 24-hour patient report. Performs tertiary surveys. Acts as a liaison for communication of care plans and discharge destinations from ICU to floor teams. Attends care coordination rounds as able. Participates in Trauma performance improvement activities to ensure the quality of care and effectiveness of service

Schedule

Scheduling flexibility required to provide for an appropriate level of patient care coverage. Full-time with coverage expectations for the majority of days on the weekend and rotational holiday coverage expectations. Three days per week with 2 out of the 3 days on Saturdays and Sundays.

Qualifications

Preferred Experience: Previous APP [specialty, procedural, or other APP skill] experience preferred. Minimum Education: Advanced Practice Nurse: Master’s Degree or higher in Nursing from a nationally accredited organization. Physician Assistant: Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Physician Assistant Studies from an ARC-PA-accredited organization.
