The APP will work with a multidisciplinary team, perform comprehensive exams, order and interpret tests, educate patients, and contribute to quality and research initiatives in an outpatient setting.

Qualifications

  • Five-year experience as a Physician Assistant/ Nurse Practitioner with 1–2 years in oncology clinics or hospitals.
  • Master’s degree in Nursing or PA degree; Wisconsin RN/APN licenses and prescriber credentials.
  • PA (NCCPA) certification and APN certification; ACLS and BCLS/CITI within 90 days.

  • Collaborates with interdisciplinary teams for hematology/oncology outpatient care.
  • Writes progress, procedure notes and orders; documents in EMR.
  • Performs and interprets diagnostic tests and communications.
  • Educates patients and families on disease and treatment plans.
  • Supports quality indicators and participates in clinical research.

Job description

The Medical College of Wisconsin’s Department of Medicine, Division of Hematology and Oncology is seeking a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to provide primary or specialty medical care within defined scope of practice under the supervision of a licensed physician and in accordance with MCW/FMLH/CHW policies and procedures. This position is located at Froedtert Clinical Cancer Center.The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) works as part of a multidisciplinary health care team, providing a broad range of diagnostic and therapeutic services for the patients of the outpatient services as a member of the Department of Medicine/Division of Hematology and Oncology.The APP will have a strong foundation in evidence-based practice and ensure an environment of safe quality care.In this role you will be responsible for the following:Collaborates with interdisciplinary health care teams in diagnosis and treatment of conditions requiring Hematology/Oncology intervention in outpatient environment as a member of the HemOnc outpatient service.Writes accurate and timely progress notes, procedure notes, and/or admission and transfer orders.Order, perform, and interpret screening and diagnostic procedures and tests, and appropriately communicates and documents information.Privileged to perform procedures beyond core as identified by the Hematology/Oncology services.Facilitates and communicates with patient, family and staff to promote continuity of care across the continuum of care.Attend required training and meets key regulatory requirements, including those of the privileging institution, CMS, and the Joint Commission.Evaluates quality outcomes for the patients receiving care of this team through participation in the development of quality indicators and outcomes dashboard.Acquires information on the most current development and trends in the Physician Assistant field and/or Nurse Practitioner field, through educational programs, in-services, professional associates, and current literature.Participates in ongoing clinical research projects related to the field of hematology/oncology.Core Advanced Practice Responsibilities:Performs comprehensive histories and physical exams, identifies normal and abnormal findings, including physical, cognitive and psychosocial status.Orders and interprets laboratory and diagnostic tests.Develops pharmaceutical and non-pharmaceutical treatment plans.Monitors effectiveness of plan of care.Educates patients on disease and treatment plans.Performs procedures as trained and appropriately credentialed.Documents within the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and completes other necessary documents.Collaborates and/or consults with physicians and other health care providers as appropriate.Educates, counsels, and assists patients and families regarding current health problems, health maintenance activities and preventive behaviors.The above statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by most people assigned to this job.
