Job description

The Department of Medicine – Division of Hematology and Oncology is seeking a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to support the inpatient services located in Milwaukee, Wisconsin at Froedtert Hospital, Center for Advanced Care, and other inpatient units.

The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) works as a member of a multidisciplinary health care team who will contribute to excellence in program administration, patient care, patient safety, research, quality improvement, and teaching.

Primary Function/Responsibility:

  • Collaborates with interdisciplinary health care teams in diagnosis and treatment of conditions requiring Hematology/Oncology/BMT intervention in inpatient environment as a member of the HemOnc/BMT inpatient service.
  • Evaluates quality outcomes for the patients receiving care of this team through participation in the development of quality indicators and outcomes dashboard.
  • Facilitates and communicates with patient, family, and staff to promote continuity of care across the continuum of care.
  • Participates in ongoing clinical research projects related to the field of hematology/oncology/BMT.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Performs comprehensive histories and physical exams, identifies normal and abnormal findings, including physical, cognitive, and psychosocial status.
  • Order, perform, and interpret screening and diagnostic procedures and tests, and appropriately communicates and documents information.
  • Develops pharmaceutical and non-pharmaceutical treatment plans.
  • Monitors effectiveness of plan of care.
  • Educates patients on disease and treatment plans.
  • Performs procedures as trained and appropriately credentialed.
  • Documents within the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and completes other necessary documents.
  • Collaborates and/or consults with physicians and other health care providers as appropriate.
  • Educates, counsels, and assists patients and families regarding current health problems, health maintenance activities, and preventive behaviors.
