UVA Health is seeking an Advanced Practice Provider for the Nerancy Neurocritical Care Unit (NNICU) and Neurologic Intermediate Care Unit (NIMU). The role emphasizes critical care and neurology with a robust orientation for new graduates.

The position features 40 hours per week with rotating day/night shifts, collaborative care with neurology and neurosurgery, and opportunities in research and quality improvement. Credentialing and ongoing education are supported.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited graduate program with a master’s degree.
• Licensure as Advanced Practice Provider (PA-C/AGAC-NP) and state requirements.
• Current BLS; ACLS/PALS as required by position.

Responsibilities

• Provide evaluation and management of critically ill neuro patients in NNICU/NIMU.
• Perform bedside procedures per credentialing (central/arterial lines, lumbar puncture, etc.).
• Collaborate with Neurology and Neurosurgery teams in multidisciplinary care.
• Document histories, exams, and treatment plans; communicate with the care team.
• Contribute to research and quality improvement initiatives.

Job description

The position at UVA Health in the Nerancy Neurocritical Care Unit (NNICU) and Neurologic Intermediate Care Unit (NIMU) offers a challenging and rewarding opportunity for an Advanced Practice Provider (APP) with interest in critical care and neurology. Preferred experience includes 1-2 years of hospital-based medicine, including critical care medicine, but is open and eager to train new graduates with a thorough orientation.

Required Licensure for the position is PA-C or AGAC-NP.

The APP will provide professional services to evaluate and treat critically ill patients with an underlying neurologic diagnosis. This includes performing bedside procedures such as, but not limited to, central line placement, arterial line placement, midline placement, lumbar puncture, and bronchoscopy. Candidates do not need prior procedure experience or ability to demonstrate competencies with procedures to apply.

This full-time role (40 hours/week) involves rotating 12 hour shifts including days, nights, weekends, and holidays. The APP will be expected to provide patient care in both the NNICU and NIMU.

This is a fast-paced environment with a rapidly growing scope of management for which a motivated APP will have robust opportunities in research and Quality Improvement.

The position offers the opportunity to bill for evaluation and management services when providing care in the NIMU.

• Valued member of an interprofessional team that includes Attendings, Residents, Fellows, etc.
• Performs and documents comprehensive histories and physical exams.
• Formulates diagnoses, identifies problems and health risk profiles, and clearly communicates and collaborates with other team members.
• Evaluates and analyzes patient responses to disease process and/or therapeutic, diagnostic interventions.
• Provides information, education, and support to patients/families regarding disease processes and treatment plans.
• Performs procedures within scope of practice and UVA Health credentialing and privileges.
• Participates in the clinical experience of students, interns, and residents as appropriate.
• Meets quality standards as determined by the Medical Director and/or UVA Health.
• Promotes the professional practice of the advanced practice group by serving as a clinical resource to nursing, medical, and allied health care practitioners.
• Updates practice through continuing education by attending conferences, rounds, reports, lectures, journal clubs, and regional/national professional conferences.

Minimum Requirements

• Education: Graduate of an accredited graduate school of nursing or physician assistant program with a master’s degree.
• Experience: Department and unit specific.
• Licensure: License or license eligible as an Advanced Practice Provider (Nurse Practitioner, Physician Associate, Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist, and Certified Nurse Midwife) as set forth by the state of Virginia. Must demonstrate and maintain all credentialing and licensing requirements of UVA Health System, the Virginia Board of Medicine or the Virginia Board of Nursing, and appropriate certifying bodies. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) required. Current PALS/NRP, as required, specific to position. Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) as required, specific to position.

Physical Demands

Job requires standing for prolonged periods, frequently bending/stooping, reaching (overhead, extensive, and repetitive); Repetitive motion: computer keyboard. Proficient communicative, auditory and visual skills; Attention to detail and ability to write legibly; Ability to lift/push/pull 50 - 100lbs. May be exposed to noise, radiation, radioactive materials, blood/body fluids and infectious disease.

The pay range for this role is $129,323.00 - $185,265.60 annually. Individual compensation will be determined by the selected candidate's qualifications, previous work experience, and/or education.
