Job summary

UVA Health’s Heart and Vascular Center in Charlottesville, VA is seeking a part-time Advanced Practice Provider for the Interventional Cardiology/Electrophysiology team. You will deliver independent and collaborative patient care in a high-volume, multidisciplinary setting, supporting pre- and post-procedure management.

Experience in cardiology is preferred; licensure includes BLS and ACLS as applicable, with a focus on access, education, and quality improvement within UVA Health's mission.

  • Licensure: Virginia advanced practice provider license; NP license; BLS; ACLS; PALS/NRP as required; credentialing and licensing per UVA Health system and boards.

Job description

The Department of Interventional Cardiology/Electrophysiology within the Division of Cardiology at UVA Health’s Heart and Vascular Center is dedicated to enhancing care models that increase access, improve health outcomes, and support patients and families throughout Central Virginia. Our mission is to deliver comprehensive, patient-centered care for those who undergo interventional cardiology/Electrophysiology procedures within a collaborative, team-based environment. Our interprofessional team includes cardiologists, advanced practice providers, nurses, and allied health professionals who share a deep commitment to health equity, innovation, education, and quality improvement.

Schedule and Work Environment
  • Part-time, clinical role based primarily in UVA’s interventional and electrophysiology procedural area.
  • Day shifts, two10-hour shifts scheduled Monday through Saturday.

Previous APP experience in cardiology preferred.

Clinical experience with pre- and post-procedure management of patients undergoing interventional cardiology and electrophysiology procedures preferred.

Background checks and pre-employment health screenings will be conducted on all new hires prior to employment. All safety-sensitive positions with direct patient interaction also require a drug screen.

Clinical
  • Provide independent and collaborative care to patients undergoing interventional cardiac procedures
  • Perform comprehensive histories, physical examinations, diagnostic evaluations, and ongoing management of patients with cardiovascular disease.
  • Support the evaluation and care coordination of patients undergoing cardiology interventions (e.g., diagnostic cardiac catheterizations, percutaneous coronary and peripheral interventions, endocardial ablations, transvenous, leadless, subcutaneous and extravascular pacemakers and defibrillators, Left atrial appendage occlusive device implant)
  • Perform direct current cardioversion
  • Participate in pre-procedural screening, education, and post-procedural follow-up care.
  • Manage common pre- and post-procedure complications like hypertension, hypotension, bleeding, angina, acute myocardial infarction, heart failure, arrhythmias and respiratory distress
  • Collaborate with interventional cardiology/electrophysiology, cardiac surgery, imaging, and other subspecialty teams to ensure coordinated, high-quality care.
  • Provide patient and family education regarding disease processes, treatment options, and procedural care.
  • Coordinate diagnostic testing, referrals, and follow-up care.
  • Ensures accurate, timely documentation in the electronic medical record and adherence to UVA Health documentation and compliance standards.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary meetings, case conferences, and program development initiatives.
  • Contribute to quality improvement efforts, research, and/or educational outreach within the department of interventional cardiology/electrophysiology
  • Contributes to ongoing efforts to enhance care models that increase access and improve outcomes
  • Participates in divisional and departmental quality improvement, patient safety, and strategic planning initiatives.
  • Provides mentorship and education to students, and new staff members.
  • Advocates for access to health care through community partnerships, outreach, and systems-based improvement initiatives.

  • Partners with APP and department leadership to optimize patient flow, operational efficiency, and access to care.

  • Participates in performance improvement, data reporting, and outcomes tracking for quality metrics.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education: Graduate of an accredited graduate school of nursing or physician assistant program with a master’s degree.

Experience: Department and unit specific.

Licensure: License or license eligible as an Advance Practice Provider (Nurse Practitioner, Physician Associate, Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist, and Certified Nurse Midwife) as set forth by the state of Virginia. If Nurse Practitioner, license to Practice as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Virginia is required. Must demonstrate and maintain all credentialing and licensing requirements of UVA Health System, the Virginia Board of Medicine or the Virginia Board of Nursing, and appropriate certifying bodies. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) required. Current PALS/NRP, as required, specific to position. Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) as required, specific to position.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Job requires standing for prolonged periods, frequently bending/stooping, reaching (overhead, extensive, and repetitive); Repetitive motion: computer keyboard. Proficient communicative, auditory and visual skills; Attention to detail and ability to write legibly; Ability to lift/push/pull 50 - 100lbs. May be exposed to noise, radiation, radioactive materials, blood/body fluids and infectious disease.

The pay range for this role is $55.82 - $82.29 hourly. Individual compensation will be determined by the selected candidate's qualifications, previous work experience, and/or education.
