Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Extends the services of physicians by providing patient care before and after surgery.
• May also assist physicians in surgical procedures.
• Provides physical exams, closes incisions, interprets diagnostic tests and counsels patients about treatment.
• Coordinates and delivers clinical services across the continuum of care for surgical patients.
• Operates under physician-directed protocols for all Advanced Practice Provider duties.

Summary

The Cardiovascular & Thoracic Surgery Physician Assistant Fellowship is a 12-month postgraduate training program designed to provide extensive clinical, surgical, and didactic experience in adult cardiovascular and thoracic surgery. Our Fellow will acquire advanced knowledge in operative techniques, perioperative management, and critical care, with emphasis on patient safety, quality improvement, and community health advocacy.

• Extends the services of physicians by providing patient care before and after surgery.
• May also assist physicians in surgical procedures.
• Services that this position may provide include physical exams, closing incisions, interpreting diagnostic tests and counseling patients about treatment.
• Provide coordination and clinical services across the continuum of care for surgical patients.
• Operates under physician directed protocols for all Advanced Practice Provider duties.
• Must obtain and maintain Medical Staff privileges as required by the position.

Minimum Qualifications

• Preferred
• 1 year hospital/outpatient clinic experience as a surgical APP.
