Job summary

UT Southwestern Medical Center is seeking a highly skilled Advanced Practice Provider (APP) for the Bariatric & Foregut Surgery program. You will work with surgeons, dietitians, and a multidisciplinary team to manage patients from evaluation through postoperative care.

The role emphasizes autonomy, strong clinical judgment, and excellent communication while supporting continuity of care across the patient journey. A surgical background is preferred, with opportunities for professional growth.

Qualifications

Graduate of a master’s degree or higher ARC-PA accredited PA program.
Master’s degree in nursing with Texas Board authorization for advanced practice.
Certification by NCCPA; licensed by the Texas PA Board, or APRN licensure with prescriptive authority.
Current ACLS certification per UT Southwestern policy.

Responsibilities

Conducts and documents comprehensive initial and ongoing physical examinations.
Synthesizes data to develop and evaluate the patient plan of care with labs and imaging.
Demonstrates proficiency in procedural skills relevant to the specialty.
Provides management, referrals, counseling, and education to patients and families.
Facilitates quality initiatives and clinical research protocols to improve practice.
Collaborates on research projects and applies evidence-based practices to patient care.
Performs other duties as assigned.

Job Summary

This service line is a team of Advanced Practice Providers (APPs) supporting the Bariatric & Foregut Surgery program at UT Southwestern. APPs work collaboratively with surgeons, dietitians, and multidisciplinary team members to provide comprehensive care for patients throughout their surgical journey. Responsibilities include patient evaluation and management, clinic follow-up, care coordination, pre- and post-operative support, and helping patients achieve successful long-term outcomes.

We are seeking an APP who is adaptable, self-motivated, and enjoys working in a fast-paced surgical specialty. The ideal candidate will have strong clinical judgment, excellent communication skills, and a passion for patient-centered care. A surgical background is preferred, though candidates with relevant clinical experience and a strong interest in bariatric and foregut surgery are encouraged to apply. This role offers a high level of autonomy, close collaboration with experienced physicians, and a blend of patient-facing and care management responsibilities that support continuity of care across the patient journey. Schedule:

Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. clinic-based schedule. No operating room responsibilities, call, weekends, or holiday coverage.

Experience And Education

Required

Graduate of a master’s degree or higher Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician (ARC-PA) accredited Physician Assistant program. OR
Master’s degree or higher in nursing, documentation of completion of accredited Advanced Practice Education Program. Graduate education and related Texas Board of Nursing authorization must be consistent with clinical practice area and patient population.
Licensure and Certification
Certification by the National Commission of Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) Certification required. Licensed by the Texas Physician Assistant Board. OR
Licensure as Advanced Practice Registered Nurse by Texas State Board of Nursing. Authorization for prescriptive authority by the Texas Board of Nursing.
Current applicable Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) American Heart Association or American Red Cross Life Support certification(s) based on UT Southwestern policy for Advanced Practice Providers.

Preferred

Experience
1+ year of experience as an Advanced Practice Provider in a surgical or related clinical setting. New graduate NPs and PAs with a strong background or interest in nutrition, bariatric care, or general surgery are also encouraged to apply.

Job Duties

Conducts and documents comprehensive initial and ongoing physical examinations based on age and diagnosis, including psychological status.
Synthesizes data and utilizes evidence to develop, implement, and evaluate the patient plan of care, including ordering and interpreting laboratory, radiology, and other diagnostic studies/results.
Demonstrates proficiency in technical/procedural skills, as appropriate and based on specialty and training.
Provides relevant management, referrals, counseling, and education to patients, families, and caregivers related to current care and preventive health measures.
Facilitates/participates in quality related initiatives and/or clinical research protocols through planned group processes, workshops, seminars, and staff meetings, to improve clinical and system practice performance.
Collaborates in research projects and protocols; and routinely applies evidence based best practices to patient care
Performs other duties as assigned.
