Job Overview

Nurse Practitioner Inpatient provides advanced health care to individuals, families or groups as an advanced or expert clinician. Performs assessment, analysis, planning and evaluation of nursing and medical care for complex acute, critical and chronic patients.

Responsibilities

• Assessment: Assess complex acute, critical and chronically ill patients for urgent and emergent conditions, using data to evaluate physiologic instability and formulate plan of care.
• Clinical Interventions: Perform therapeutic interventions to stabilize acute and critical health problems, analyzing indications, risk of complications and cost‑benefits. Specific interventions are listed in the Scope of Practice and approved via credentialing/privileging.
• Plan of Care: Manage, evaluate, modify and document the plan of care according to patient response, focusing on optimizing outcomes and incorporating health promotion, protection and injury prevention measures.
• Transition and Education: Facilitate patient transition between and within health care settings, serve as an educational resource for patients/families, nursing staff and providers, and act as consultant to the multidisciplinary team.
• Professional Development: Participate in scholarly activities including research and education, maintain required competencies, pursue learning opportunities, and serve as preceptor or mentor to nurses, APPs, students and other health care providers.
• Patient Safety and Quality: Demonstrate commitment to safety by speaking up about safety issues, changing practice to enhance safety, and sharing errors or potential errors through system reporting mechanisms.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree from an approved NP program (required).
• RN license from the Louisiana State Board of Nursing; APRN license from the Louisiana State Board of Nursing (required).
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from American Heart Association (required).
