ADVANCED PRACTICE PROFESSIONALS - Heart and Vascular Institute (HVI) - Vascular Surgery Nurse Practitioner (89001) or Physician Assistant (89101)

Department:

Heart and Vascular Institute

Reports To:

Administrative Director of Heart and Vascular Institute, Faculty Supervisor, Section of Vascular Surgery, Chairman of HVI Surgery

FLSA Status:

Exempt

Position Summary:

The Advanced Practice Professional (APP) has the clinical skills required for the comprehensive management of vascular surgery patients, including assessments, coordination of care, performing diagnostic/therapeutic procedures, and discharge planning. The APP also participates in educating residents and medical/nursing students.

Minimum Qualifications for Nurse Practitioner:
  • Graduate of a CCNE-accredited nursing program with a Master's Degree in Nursing.
  • National Certification by recognized APRN Certification Centers.
  • Licensure or eligibility for licensure as a Registered Nurse and Advanced Practice Registered Nurse in West Virginia.
  • For those privileged as First Assists in the OR, RNFA certification is required.
  • American Heart Association BLS Certification, with additional Advanced Life Support training at the department's discretion.
Experience:
  • Vascular surgery or acute care experience preferred.
  • New graduates will be considered.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • ACNPs preferred; FNPs will also be considered.
Minimum Qualifications for Physician Assistant:
  • Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Physician Assistant required.
  • Graduate of an ARC-PA approved PA training program.
  • Certification by the National Commission for Certification of Physician Assistants.
  • Licensed or eligible for licensure by the WV Board of Medicine or WV Board of Osteopathic Medicine.
  • American Heart Association BLS Certification, with additional ALS training at the department's discretion.
Experience:
  • Vascular surgery or acute care experience preferred.
  • Eligible new graduates will be considered.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's Degree Physician Assistant preferred.
Core Duties and Responsibilities:

Manage comprehensive care for vascular surgery patients, perform rounds, evaluations, participate in perioperative management, and collaborate with the surgical team. Develop individualized care plans, coordinate discharge, and serve as a resource for staff. Engage in community programs, participate in research, and contribute to quality improvement initiatives. Other duties as assigned.

Physical Requirements:

Work requires strength and stamina, including lifting, moving, and standing for extended periods. Reasonable accommodations will be made as needed.

Work Environment:

Work involves close collaboration with staff, irregular hours, and exposure to biohazards and infectious diseases. Safety protocols must be followed at all times.
