Position Overview

Our Critical Care Advanced Practice Professionals (APP) are located across 3 of our Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist campuses, including Winston‑Salem, Lexington, and High Point.
Pay Range: $53.80 – $80.70 per hour.
Hours Per Week: 40 hours.
Benefits Eligible: Yes.
Schedule: 36 shifts per quarter, 50% days (6 a.m.-6 p.m.), 50% nights (6 p.m.-6 a.m.).

Work in a Supportive & Collaborative Environment

Our Critical Care APPs work in collaboration with critical care attending physicians to manage patients in Specialty Intensive Care Units. They lead collaboration and education, working with ICU staff from nursing, respiratory therapy, pharmacy, physical therapy, and nutrition services. They also work alongside ACGME‑accredited residency and fellowship training programs, offering opportunities for cooperation and shared education.

What You’ll Do
Responsibilities

As a valued member of our healthcare team, the PA/ACNP will play a key role in team‑focused patient care, conducting thorough examinations and evaluations in medical/surgical settings. Responsibilities include:

  • Using medical decision‑making skills to determine appropriate patient care plan.
  • Collaborate with critical care physicians in Specialty Intensive Care Units.
  • Perform physical assessments and manage a broad range of critical illnesses.
  • Order and interpret laboratory studies and diagnostic procedures; explain the necessity, preparation, nature, and anticipated effects of scheduled diagnostic and therapeutic procedures to the patient.
  • Conduct common critical care procedures: insertion of central venous catheters, dialysis, arterial line placement and monitoring, endotracheal intubation, procedural skills per department or practice guidelines.
  • Provide comprehensive care of critically ill patients, including: initial resuscitation and management; coordination of clinical care between intensivist and consulting teams; counseling patients and families on illness details, care, and decision‑making processes; preparing patients and families for discharge from the ICU.
  • Collaborate with the medical team when needed for effective team‑based care.

Qualifications
Physician Assistant (PA) Requirements
  • Graduation from an accredited Physician Assistant Program; Master's Degree preferred.
  • Current North Carolina Medical Board Medical License, Certified by NCCPA.
  • Minimum of one year of experience in a critical care or urgent/emergent care environment.
  • Current Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) registration.
  • Current BLS and ACLS certification.
Nurse Practitioner (NP) Requirements
  • Graduation from an accredited Nurse Practitioner Master's Program; Master’s degree or higher required.
  • Current North Carolina Board of Nursing Registered Nurse and Nurse Practitioner license.
  • Board certified as an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner by AANP or ANCC.
  • Minimum of one year of experience in a critical care or urgent/emergent care environment.
  • Current Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) registration.
  • Current BLS and ACLS certification.
