Advanced Practice Nursing Clinical Site Coordinator

Under the direction of the Associate Dean for Clinical Practice, we are seeking an Advanced Practice Nursing Clinical Site Coordinator who will provide the day-to-day communication necessary to recruit clinical sites and preceptors required for nurse practitioner and post-master's certificate students’ clinical rotations locally and nationally. In partnership with specialty track directors, faculty advisors, students and the Clinical Placement Specialist provides input for monitoring and improving the Exxat clinical placement system to assign students to preceptors and sites. Works collaboratively with clinical and community agencies as well as individual preceptors to optimize student learning and foster positive relationships with clinical partners to ensure resources and agreements are in place for appropriate clinical and preceptor placements for graduate nursing students. Assists in general duties related to streamlining clinical placements to optimize faculty expertise and minimize their administrative burden. Promotes and maintains a positive image for the School of Nursing in the greater Baltimore region and nationally for online programs.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with agencies and preceptors to procure and maintain adequate clinical practice sites to precept current graduate students, obtaining and maintaining the required documentation in accordance with JHSON and agency policies to identify educational requirements for clinical experiences of nursing students.
  • Act as liaison to maximize (1) the utilization of available preceptors; (2) the placement of students with the appropriate preceptors and clinical sites based on their specific needs; (3) prepare for the review and approval by the associate dean for clinical practice of all written correspondence, materials, and clinical documents such as orientation manuals, preceptor handbooks, protocols, evaluations of preceptors and students, letters or appreciation/recognition, and (4) oversee all processes in the Exxat program to continuously monitor clinical placement sites.


Specifically

  • Research, identify, establish, and promote positive relationships with agency representatives to maximize the utilization of clinical resources.
  • Develop a semester preceptor schedule based on anticipated student enrollment in clinical courses.
  • Work with the contracts team to initiate affiliation agreements between the college and clinical practice sites.
  • Network with clinical agencies to ensure clinical placement sites are available for all clinical courses and appropriate for student experience.
  • Confirm clinical schedules with sites & create clinical roster, confirm preceptor-student clinical schedules.
  • Evaluate preceptor and clinical site/agency (communication with nurse manager on student clinical objectives)
  • Continuously monitor preceptor credentials and certifications and ensure compliance with university and school of nursing requirements.
  • Maintain clinical site contact roster & compliance paperwork required for preceptorship confirmation.
  • Maintain a spreadsheet of state board of nursing requirements for securing approval or updating existing approval for teaching selected online programs in each state.
  • Work with Executive Vice Dean to prepare and submit applications for state board of nursing approval for selected online programs.
  • Establish and maintain accurate databases of active, inactive, and ineligible clinical sites and preceptors, monitor agency and preceptor evaluation records.
  • Regularly communicate updated data regarding outreach, student status, sites, preceptors, and any other information related to the placement of students to the supervisor, associate dean of clinical practice and specialty track directors.
  • Maintain an inventory of potential clinical placement sites; record relevant data specific to site and preceptor that provides a diary of the history of each for future reference/decision making.
  • Miscellaneous office and administrative tasks, such as identifying and disseminating information to faculty and staff, copying, filing, assisting with events, etc.


Special Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

  • The ideal candidate will work collaboratively with the Associate Dean for Clinical Practice; the Clinical Placement Specialists, the DNP Projects Coordinator, specialty track director(s), students and advisors to assign graduate students to clinical sites and preceptors.
  • This individual will work closely with local and national clinical and community agencies as well as individual preceptors to optimize student learning and foster positive relationships with clinical partners.
  • This collaboration requires excellent customer relations, strong organizational skills and immediate follow-through to promote and maintain a positive image for the JHSON nationally and in the greater Baltimore, Maryland region.


Supervisory responsibility

  • Potential to supervise 1-2 student employees.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree.
  • Five years of related experience.
  • Additional education may substitute for required experience and additional related experience may substitute for required education beyond HS diploma/graduation equivalent, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's Degree, ideally in a field of study related to nursing.
  • Prior experience working in an academic (college or university) health setting, medical, service, or hospitality background.

Education and Experience Equivalency

Please refer to the job description above to see which forms of equivalency are permitted for this position. If permitted, equivalencies will follow these guidelines: JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. Additional related experience may substitute for required education on the same basis. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job.
