Job summary

The GS-7 Primary Care Outpatient Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) performs more complex nursing assignments. They possess comprehensive practical nursing knowledge and skills in specialized procedures.

The LPN work is of considerable difficulty and responsibility and is performed under general supervision. Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met.

Qualifications

• Graduate of a school of practical or vocational nursing approved by the State or NLNAC accreditation at program completion.
• Active, full, current, and unrestricted LPN/LVN licensure in a U.S. state/territory/DC.
• May qualify under Grandfathering Provision for current VA employees in this occupation.

Responsibilities

• Perform more complex nursing assignments under general supervision.
• Exercise independent technical judgement in applying nursing knowledge.
• Assist RN/MD in prioritizing patient care and adjust care plans as needed.
• Administer prescribed medications/treatments and document patient responses.
• Recognize urgent or emergent patient care situations and respond appropriately.
