Job summary

Yale New Haven Health System is seeking an Outpatient Coder 2 to perform a comprehensive review of medical record documentation and assign accurate ICD-10-CM/PCS and CPT codes.

Under the OP Coding Supervisor, you will manage coding workloads across two complex outpatient service lines, maintain quality, and meet departmental productivity expectations while contributing to ongoing coding education and process improvements.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree preferred with coursework in anatomy, physiology, medical terminology.
• At least three years of outpatient/professional coding in complex areas.
• RHIT/CCS/CCS-P credential or coding certification preferred.
• Epic and 3M encoder experience preferred.
• AAPC or AHIMA credentials preferred.

Responsibilities

• Review medical records to assign ICD-10-CM codes per guidelines.
• Assign CPT codes, modifiers, and ICD-10-PCS as applicable.
• Maintain at least 95% coding quality across OP service lines.
• Meet productivity targets set by the department.
• Code complex OP service lines such as Cardiology, IR, Oncology, or SDS.
• Query clinicians when documentation is unclear.
