Job summary

The Veterans Health Administration is seeking an Orthotist/Prosthetist (Advanced Practitioner) within the Nebraska-Western Iowa Health Care System. The specialist provides the most complex clinical and laboratory prosthetic and orthotic services to disabled Veterans, with duties spanning evaluation, fabrication, fitting, training, and ongoing care.

Work Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m.–4:30 p.m. Telework is not available.

Qualifications

• Identifies biomechanical conditions to inform O/P treatment.
• Conducts gait analysis, ROM, coordination, balance and motor skills assessments.
• Interviews patients to determine expectations, lifestyle, home/work environment.
• Selects materials and components for fabrication; uses CAD/CAM; performs alignment.
• Fits and aligns the device; provides training on use and maintenance.
• Communicates with physicians and allied health professionals to develop the O/P treatment plan.
• Manages inventory of stock items, fabrication materials, chemicals, and components.
• Ensures safe workplace per OSHA/JCAHO regulations.

Responsibilities

• Conduct gait and functional assessments to determine device needs.
• Interview patients to tailor devices to lifestyle and environment.
• Select, fabricate, and assemble device components; align devices.
• Fit devices and provide training on use and maintenance for patient and caregivers.
• Coordinate with physicians and other health professionals on treatment plans.
• Manage inventory and equipment related to orthotics and prosthetics.
• Maintain a safe, compliant workplace per standards.
