Job summary

The Naval Nuclear Laboratory (NNL) New Fuel and Exams unit is seeking a mechanical engineer to join our team. The newest team member will formulate design solutions to complex problems, may complete finite element analyses (FEA), and will conduct analytical assessments of reactor servicing equipment.

This position provides the opportunity to develop mechanical design expertise while interfacing with multiple engineering disciplines, which are part of the larger team that supports safe movement

Qualifications

• Requires a Bachelor's degree with 4+ years experience; or a Master's with 2+ years; or Doctorate in related field.
• Alternatively, current Advanced Reactor Training Engineer, Refueling Engineer, or RPCO Engineer at the Company.
• Mechanical engineering degree preferred; Abaqus experience; mechanical/structural design; ability to read/interprete drawings.

Responsibilities

• Formulate design solutions to complex problems.
• May complete finite element analyses (FEA).
• Conduct analytical assessments of reactor servicing equipment.
• Interface with colleagues in the United Kingdom as part of US/UK exchange program.
