The Advanced Materials and Manufacturing group at the NationalInstitute for Aviation Research (NIAR) is seeking an engineering orrelated‑field student for a year‑round internship located in ourdowntown Huntsville, Alabama office. This role is designed tosupport an applied learning atmosphere while the student continuesworking toward their undergraduate or graduate degree.
We are looking for candidates with an interest in metallic andpolymer additive manufacturing, high‑temperature compositematerials, or software development and databasing. This positionsupports all aspects of applied research for a variety ofgovernment and industry customers.
Project work will typically involve the characterization,qualification, and integration of newly emerging materials andmanufacturing processes into both current and next‑generationsystems. The types of evaluation will involve a wide range ofsystems such as ground vehicles, aircraft, and missile. Evaluationsmay also include thermo-structural modeling and studies related tomaterial decomposition in high-temperature environments.
This position will be based entirely in Huntsville, AL, and willsee you work closely with engineers at NIAR to support our growinggovernment and industry customer base. A student assistant will carry out administrative and technicaltasks requested by a supervisor. Additional duties andresponsibilities will be the investigation of novel materials andanalysis techniques with an understanding of thethermo-physical/mechanical properties.
