Job summary

Serco Inc. in Virginia is seeking an Advanced Marine Welder to support U.S. Navy ships, fabricating and assembling electromechanical and electronic assemblies on-board in shipyard environments.

The ideal candidate has 5+ years of shipboard welding experience, U.S. citizenship, and is eligible to obtain DoD Secret clearance. You must own your tools, pass Serco weld tests, and complete specified Serco welding procedures within 30 days, with travel up to 10%.

Qualifications

• The ability to obtain/maintain DoD Secret security clearance.
• U.S Citizenship Required.
• A High School Diploma/GED.
• A minimum of 5 years shipboard welding experience.
• The ability to access shipyards (NAVSTA & DBIDS), undergo a background check and pass a drug screening.
• Complete qualification in Serco Welding Procedures within 30 days of starting for continued employment: Serco-001 to Serco-012.
• Your own tools and pass pre-certification weld test.
• Respirator qualified and wear PPE.
• Familiarity with NAVSEA standards for electrical repair, fabrication, and installation.
• Safety-conscious and able to travel up to 10%.

Position Description & Qualifications

Serco is hiring an Advanced Marine Welder to be part of a dynamic team supporting our US. Navy Ships with equipment, and C5ISR system installations located in the beautiful surroundings in Norfolk, Virginia.

Serco supports our US Naval Ships with successful and safe work by providing cabling, equipment, and C5ISR system installations for our Military. You will join an amazing team to fabricate, and assemble various electromechanical and electronic assemblies by applying appropriate safety techniques.

You will also play a critical role in ensuring that successful and safe work is performed on-board U.S. Naval Ships and our Military installations, which is vital to our Mission to protect and serve our Military.

In this role, you will:

• Assemble pieces of metal together or repair damage in metal components using heavy machinery that emits high heat, melting the metal into shape

• Review blueprints

• Cut metal into the appropriate shape

• Smooth metal to remove creases

• Climb shipyard dry dock stairs/ladders, work in kneeling position for layout of cable runs under false decking, lift 50 pounds with 80% of work requiring carrying, pushing, and/or pulling up to 40 pounds for majority of shift while being in a standing, crouching, or walking position

• May train personnel on machinery tools and test equipment

To be successful in this role, you will have:

• The ability to obtain/maintain DoD Secret security clearance

• U.S Citizenship Required

• A High School Diploma/GED

• A minimum of 5 years shipboard welding experience

• The ability to obtain gain access to shipyards (NAVSTA & DBIDS), undergo a background investigation and pass a drug screening

• Complete successful qualification in the following Serco Welding Procedures within 30 days of starting with Serco for continued employment with Serco: Serco-001 (GMAW, Aluminum – 4 position), Serco-002 (SMAW, HY100-4 position), Serco-003 (GMAW, Aluminum – 4 position), Serco-007 (SMAW, C/S to S/S – 4 position), and Serco-012 (SMAW, S/S to S/S – 4 position)

• Your own tools of the trade and able to pass pre-certification company weld test

• Respirator qualified and wear proper PPE throughout their work shift

• Familiarity with NAVSEA, standard concepts, practices, and procedures within the field of electrical repair, fabrication, and installation

• Have attention to safety, which is critical

• Ability to travel up to 10%

Additional desired experience and skills:

• A DoD Secret Clearance

• An OSHA 10 certification

• Shipboard experience

Salary range: The hourly amount for this position can be found at the top of this posting. This role is covered by the Service Contract Act.For positions on this contract, we will pay the prevailing wage rate for the location in which the employee is working, as determined by the Department of Labor and the Wage Determination (WD). The wage rate will vary depending on the locality.
