Job summary

Timberlab in Oregon is seeking a skilled Production Operator to independently run assigned machinery, perform startups and changeovers, and monitor quality to meet specifications. You will work across multiple centers, support maintenance, and document output and inventory.

The ideal candidate has 2+ years in manufacturing or lumber-related roles, strong mechanical aptitude, and the ability to train others. This role involves shift work and adherence to safety and quality standards.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated ability to independently operate, set up, adjust, and troubleshoot industrial manufacturing equipment.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to troubleshoot machinery within trained responsibility.
  • Ability to interpret operator instructions, production specifications, quality requirements, equipment documentation, and technical information.
  • Basic to intermediate computer skills for machine interfaces, production systems, maintenance records, and quality documentation.

Responsibilities

  • Independently operate assigned production machinery, controls, and material handling systems in accordance with qualified operator instructions.
  • Perform machine startups, shutdowns, setup, calibration verification, changeovers, production adjustments, and in-process checks.
  • Monitor production processes to ensure products meet specifications, tolerances, appearance, bond, dimensional, and quality requirements.
  • Troubleshoot equipment, tooling, material flow, adhesive, press, RF, dimensional, surface-quality, recovery, and process issues within trained responsibility.
  • Perform routine maintenance, equipment inspections, condition checks, cleaning, lubrication, tooling checks, and authorized component replacement.
  • Support work-center-specific processes including lumber preparation, planing, sizing, finger jointing, adhesive application, pressing, RF curing, layup, material handling, and automated line operation.
  • Monitor and record production output, material use, quality checks, recovery, downtime, maintenance activity, and equipment condition.
  • Train and coach Utility Technicians and newly assigned employees on safe operation, standard work, housekeeping, and quality checks.
  • Assist with maintaining and improving operator instructions, setup sheets, checklists, and troubleshooting guides.
  • Collaborate with Production, Quality, Maintenance, Engineering, Facilities, and Supervision to resolve issues and improve workflow.
  • Receive, stock, issue, and return inventory items; count inventory and support cycle counts, physical inventory, and reconciliation of stock discrepancies.
  • Monitor inventory levels and communicate low inventory, damaged items, missing parts, or replenishment needs to the appropriate team members.
  • Participate in continuous improvement focused on safety, quality, uptime, throughput, recovery, waste reduction, and housekeeping.
  • Follow safety protocols and guidelines to maintain a safe working environment.
  • Maintain qualification in a primary machine center and complete cross-training in additional work centers as assigned.
  • Complete other responsibilities as assigned.
