What You'll Do
- Guide students through curriculum resources leading to the Certified Production Technician (CPT) credential through the Manufacturing Skill Standards Council (MSSC).
- Instruct and coach students through work assignments, monitoring their progress toward assignment and credential completion.
- Create a learning plan that paces instruction so students achieve credentialing within a reasonable, curriculum-aligned timeframe.
- Evaluate student learning periodically and provide specific, accurate, and substantive feedback on progress.
- Maintain lab equipment in good repair with timely program updates, ensuring student access to all four MSSC modules (Safety; Quality Practices & Measurement; Manufacturing Processes & Production; Maintenance Awareness) and the NOCTI assessment platform.
- Develop Project-Based Learning activities using tools such as 3D printers, lasers, engravers, and robots to create products donated to local nonprofit organizations.
- Use sound instructional strategies, techniques, and equipment demonstrations tailored to a range of student needs and abilities.
- Build professional rapport with students, reinforcing responsibility, citizenship, and workplace expectations.
- Maintain required certifications and licensure, including serving as a proctor for NOCTI platform testing.
- Manage classroom and lab activities in a way that builds teamwork, punctuality, and developmental skills.
- Complete required documentation, progress reports, and report cards in a timely and complete manner.
What You'll Need
- No restrictions in securing an Iowa Department of Education vocational teacher license or permit.
- Community College Adjunct Eligibility: Candidate must be able to qualify for adjunct instructor status with the local community college partner. For CTE instructors, this may include appropriate industry licensure/certification, related degree or associate degree with relevant work experience, or specialized training with at least 6,000 hours of tested industry experience. Candidate must be willing to provide transcripts, certifications, employment history, and other documentation needed for faculty qualification review.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in manufacturing; experience in teaching, case management, coaching, or human services preferred.
- High school diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor's degree in Education or a related field preferred.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and presentation skills, with strong interpersonal skills.
- Passion for working with and teaching youth from diverse social, educational, and economic backgrounds.
- Willingness to go above and beyond to support students in achieving academic goals.
- Proficiency in the use of technology and a commitment to continued personal and professional growth.
