Avancez Assembly in Auburn Hills, MI, is seeking an Advanced Manufacturing Engineer II to advance manufacturing plans and drive improvements across assembly operations.

The role focuses on APQP, PFMEA, and continuous improvement, collaborating with PC&L and Quality Engineering to ensure high-quality, cost-efficient production.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering and 3+ years in assembly/manufacturing.
  • 2+ years with APQP systems; supervisory experience preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of tooling, equipment, automation, and cost reduction in automotive assembly.

Responsibilities

  • Develop detailed manufacturing plans for new programs requiring new equipment or retooling existing equipment.
  • Coordinate sourcing activities from RFQ to PO for major tooling and equipment purchases.
  • Support launch by training operators and providing resources.
  • Work with PC&L to optimize material flow to the production line.
  • Collaborate with Quality Engineering to drive quality controls back into design.
  • Maintain equipment records and ensure compliance with policies and procedures.
  • Lead and develop team, champion safety, and continuous improvement.

Overview

Advanced Manufacturing Engineer II at Avancez Assembly. We are a people-focused, service-minded organization that emphasizes continuous improvement, best practices, and world-class service. Responsibilities
  • Develop detailed manufacturing plans for new programs requiring new equipment or retooling existing equipment.
  • Prepare all sourcing activities from RFQ to PO for major outside tooling and equipment purchases (e.g., continuity testers, alignment equipment, balancers, uniformity equipment).
  • Gather relevant product information, production rates and assembly requirements from customer contacts.
  • Prepare equipment operators for launch by assisting the launch team with training and providing reference and support resources.
  • Maintain process integrity by developing and updating policies, procedures, methods, and guidelines.
  • Monitor and support plant equipment installation and launch.
  • Review sourcing activities from RFQ to PO for major outside tooling and equipment purchases.
  • Work with the PC&L team to optimize material flow to the production line.
  • Understand Android operations (sequencing, subassembly, shipping and receiving).
  • Responsible for equipment certification and run-off; provide feedback and escalate issues to leadership.
  • Coordinate with Plant team members to ensure lessons learned, best practices, and plant goals are integrated into the new production process.
  • Coordinate program change requests.
  • Provide Manufacturing Engineering guidance to improve throughput, reduce scrap/rework, lower costs, and improve quality and reliability of assembly processes and equipment.
  • Collaborate with Quality Engineering to drive quality controls (PFMEA, Control Plans, error-proofing) back into design and ensure a robust Manufacturing System.
  • Promote health and safety in all phases of engineering and launch.
  • Maintain equipment records by filing documents and updating the equipment database.
  • Maintain a collaborative, team-oriented work environment and positively influence team dynamics.
  • Lead and develop people; teach, lead, and continuously improve all areas of the business.
  • All other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering.
  • 3+ years of experience in assembly and/or manufacturing; 2+ years of experience with APQP systems.
  • Supervisory experience in manufacturing is preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • General understanding of manufacturing processes and Android operations (sequencing, sub-assembly, shipping and receiving, tooling).
  • Strong knowledge of tooling, equipment, automation, engineering specifications, and cost reduction in automotive assembly applications.
  • Analytical problem-solving skills; ability to handle unusual and difficult problems.
  • Strong decision-making skills and ability to grasp technical concepts quickly.
  • Proficiency with GD&T, PFMEA, and Control Plans.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills; high interpersonal skills to work with diverse teams.
  • Working knowledge of IATF quality system.
  • Strong computer skills (Windows, Word, Excel, PowerPoint); AutoCAD is a plus.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.
