Job description

Advanced Lead Engineer - Electronics/Optics

Join to apply for the Advanced Lead Engineer - Electronics/Optics role at GE Aerospace

The Advanced Lead Engineer within our Advanced Measurement Technologies research and development team will be responsible for researching, designing, developing, and deploying novel optical measurement systems for GE’s future-of-flight tests. You will be working hands‑on in a collaborative team to leverage your optical, mechanical, and embedded electronic system design expertise to integrate measurement systems into next‑generation engines. You will work closely with engineers, interns, and laboratory personnel to ensure on‑time customer delivery of projects. You will also lead the creation and execution of roadmaps and design practices for optical measurement technology maturation as you help develop the future of engine and component testing.

Roles and Responsibilities
  • Execute the optical, mechanical, embedded electronic design, analysis, and evaluation of optical measurement systems from conception to deployment for Aerospace engines and aircraft.
  • Support measurement system integration to engine/rig and support testing and data post‑processing.
  • Adhere to business standards, practices, procedures, and product requirements.
  • Leverage prior optical, electrical/electronic, and mechanical design experience and broaden knowledge of one's own technical discipline to meet product deliverables within schedule and budget constraints.
  • Identify and leverage contract manufacturing for appropriately identified sub‑system/sub‑component for full system integration.
  • Demonstrate systems‑thinking mentality to understand how work of one's team integrates with others to achieve product requirements.
  • Exhibit autonomy to make decisions within a defined requirements framework while resolving design challenges in situations which require technical knowledge and judgment.
  • Review designs and consult with senior technical leaders for evaluation of work.
  • Develop strong internal and external customer relationships by serving as an interface point within GE Aerospace.
Required Qualifications
  • Master’s or advanced degree in Electrical Engineering, Optics or Physics from an accredited university.
  • 3+ years of experience in optical measurements, embedded electronics, optical system design prototyping, and opto‑mechanics.
Desired Characteristics
  • 3 years’ experience in optical/opto‑mechanical design engineering position.
  • 3 years’ experience in a rugged optical measurement system and embedded electronics design position.
  • Experience with optical tools such as Zemax, finite element analysis software such as ANSYS and 3D modelling software such as NX Unigraphics.
  • Hands‑On Experience with opto‑mechanical devices and breadboarding.
  • Experience with optical based measurements in aerospace applications (turbines, combustors, etc.) or similar harsh environments.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including presentation of technical information.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze and solve technical design challenges with sound documentation, planning, and program management skills.
  • Highly motivated and passionate.
  • Ability to document, plan, market, and execute programs.

Whether we are manufacturing components for our engines, driving innovation in fuel and noise reduction, or unlocking new opportunities to grow and deliver more productivity, our GE Aerospace teams are dedicated to making a global impact. Join us and help move the aerospace industry forward!
