Job description

Nook Group Ex Instructors are responsible for leading the group exercise classes, educating members, and maintaining a safe fitness environment for members and fellow instructors. All instructors must have a valid certification in CPR/AED and Group Fitness Instructor Certification. (NASM is preferred certification but minimum credential required is Group Fitness Instructor Certification). All instructors also must have a current certification in one of the following areas in order to teach these classes:

Cycle: Cycling or Spin Certified

Yoga: Yoga Certification

Step Aerobics: Minimum: Group Fit. Preferred: Step Aerobics

Boot Camp/HIIT: Minimum: Group Fit Instructor

Essential Job Functions

  • Greet and welcome guests to classes in an upbeat manner
  • Motivate and encourage participants during class
  • Critique member form in positive manner to maximize results
  • Arrange and set-up equipment to maximize space and lines of sight to instructor
  • Provide excellent customer service to all members
  • Encourage all members to attend group fitness classes
  • Answer all questions from members in a comprehensive and professional manner
  • Complete administrative work in a timely manner
  • All other duties as assigned
Basic Qualifications
  • OH Child Abuse Clearance and FBI Fingerprint Criminal History Clearance: Must be dated within the past 5 years and specifically for employment (not volunteer).
    • NOTE: If you do not have already these clearances, you will be provided with instructions when an offer of employment is made. Results can take up to 4-6 weeks. Both clearances must be presented before employment can begin.
  • Current CPR/AED Certification
  • Current Group Fitness Instructor Certification
  • Experience ina variety of areas like HIIT, Boot Camp, Yoga, Cycle, Strength based classes, Step Aerobics, etc.
  • 18 years of age or older
  • Dependable transportation to and from work
  • Language skills: Fluent knowledge of the English language; including the ability to read and interpret written information and speak and understand verbal communication
  • Ability to fulfill the physical requirements of the position with any reasonable accommodations as necessary
  • Availability to work a flexible schedule that may include evenings, weekends, and/or holidays as needed
  • Authorized to work in the United States

Working Conditions

  • Work environment: Upbeat, high-energy sports and event complex with heavy foot traffic and frequent large crowds.
  • Physical requirements: While performing the duties of this job, the team member will be regularly required to perform physical activity that includes moving about the work area, standing, sitting, bending, reaching with hands and arms, lifting, pushing, pulling, talking, hearing and smelling. The team member will be frequently required to stoop, kneel, or crouch. He or she is required to have the visual acuity to determine the accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of the work assigned.
  • As a Group Fitness Instructor, the team member must be physically capable of performing the movements required of the specific group exercise class for which he or she is responsible for teaching.
  • Lifting requirements: The team member will be required to lift, push, pull, lower and/or move up to 10 lbs regularly, and frequently up to 50 lbs repeatedly as required to instruct members.
  • Noise Level: The noise level in this environment is typically moderate to loud.
  • Work schedule: The work schedule may fluctuate to include evenings, weekends, and holidays.
