Job summary

University of Minnesota is seeking a Flow Cytometry Specialist to assist the daily operation of the UFCR, including QC, setup of flow cytometers, operation of analyzers and sorters, data acquisition, analysis, and sorting for customers.

The role involves training, scheduling, instrument troubleshooting, safety practices, and providing guidance to researchers, with a focus on quality control and customer service. A BS/BA with experience is required.

Qualifications

  • BS/BA degree and 4 years experience in a relevant field or a combination of relevant experience to equal 8 years.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in daily operation of the facility including monitoring equipment usage and billing time.
  • Assist in inventory of reagents and supplies used in the flow cytometry laboratory.
  • Technical writing and review of SOPs for instrument operation and training.
  • Performs extensive troubleshooting of instrumentation.
  • Practices quality control procedures in order to ensure safety when working with possibly biohazardous samples.
  • Utilizes Flow Cytometry analyzers and cell sorters for optimum data acquisition and quality control purposes.
  • Analyzes and sorts specimen samples from mammalian tissues.
  • Analyzes and prepares preliminary data.
  • Provides instruction and guidance to researchers and trained users, including scheduling, analysis and sorting of samples, and basic equipment questions and problems.
  • Acquires and constantly maintains current knowledge of scientific research and cytometry reagents.
  • Handles limited special projects/roles in the resource.
  • Familiar with basic lab safety procedures.
