Job summary

Forsyth County Department of Emergency Services seeks dedicated Advanced EMTs to provide prehospital care for sick or injured persons in Winston-Salem, NC. This intermediate EMS level requires judgement in treating patients under general supervision.

AEMT duties include advanced lifesaving techniques, medication administration, and transport coordination. Candidates must meet NC EMS certification requirements and hold a valid NC driver’s license.

Qualifications

• Graduation from high school or GED supplemented by courses in emergency medical care.
• One year experience as an EMT required.
• Certification by the NC Department of Human Resources Office of Emergency Medical Services and the NC Board of Examiners as an Advanced EMT required.
• Must have a valid NC driver’s license.
• Lifting over 100 lbs occasionally, 50-100 lbs. frequently or up to 20-50 lbs.

Responsibilities

• Responds to emergency calls as an ambulance driver or attendant, administers necessary emergency medical care, and transports persons to appropriate medical facilities.
• Administers medications and performs medical procedures approved for AEMT by the NC Office of Emergency Medical Service.
• Staff a transport unit with another provider; drive and/or deliver patient care and work toward the crew chief role.
