Job summary

Pafford Emergency Medical Services in Louisiana seeks a highly qualified EMS professional to provide Advanced Life Support at the scene of emergencies. You will direct fast, decisive patient care, perform critical assessments, administer medications, and coordinate with hospital staff to ensure safe transport.

The role requires AEMT licensure, ACLS and CPR certifications, and a valid state driver’s license. CEVO/EVOC training and PALS are preferred.

Qualifications

  • Must have high school diploma or GED; an associate degree or higher is preferred.
  • Requires unrestricted AEMT licensure and National Registry Certification.
  • CPR for Health Care Providers required.
  • ACLS certification required; PALS encouraged.
  • Willing to obtain pediatric life support credentials.
  • Valid Louisiana driver’s license.
  • CEVO or EVOC training completed by hire date.
  • Strong knowledge of prehospital emergency medicine.
  • Ability to operate emergency medical equipment.
  • Ability to manage and direct first responders.

Job description

ProvidesAdvanced Life Supportincludingmedicalevaluation,treatment andstabilizationof the criticallyillandinjured;responds toemergencyrescuesituationsinvolving potential loss of life or bodily injury;maintainscontrol, manages and directs patient care at thesceneof a pre-hospital emergency; provides training andinstructiontolessertrained personnel; performs other dutiesasrequired.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB:

  • Provides and directs fast, efficient Advanced Life Support to the ill and injured utilizing all basic and advanced abilities and techniques, including but not limited to the placement of peripheral and intra-osseous lines, supra-glottic airways, endotracheal intubations, fluid and drug therapy, and AED use including defibrillation;
  • Recognizes and understands a medical emergency and makes reasonable and acceptable differential diagnosis;
  • Performscritical physical examinations;
  • Understands and anticipates thepharmacologicaltreatment of critically ill and injuredpatients;
  • Understandsandanticipatespotentially life-threatening presentation ofnon-cardiacemergenciesand institutes appropriate emergency therapy where essential forthepreservation oflife;
  • Deals with medical and emotional needs of any victim of acute illness or injury with the goal of reducing mortality and morbidity;
  • Responsible formanaging anddirectingallfirstresponders at the scene of a medical emergency such asEMR's,Police Departments,and EMT's;
  • Responsiblefor qualitypatient-careas established by the Company;
  • Files standardized reports of patient information and care for the use of receiving hospital and administration, including nature of request for aid, pertinent past history, therapy provided diagnosis, disposition and sufficient patient information for billing purposes;
  • Maintains effective communication with physician on duty athospitalto relatepatientcondition and obtain orders fortreatment;
  • Follows standard written guidelines when a physician cannot be contacted;
  • Transports the ill and injured to institutions of medical care;
  • Operatesemergency vehiclesina safemannerunderall conditions;
  • Cleansandmaintainsequipment;
  • Properlycompletes patient statistics and medicalinformationforms foradministrativeuse;
  • Performstechnical rescues inremovingvictimsfromvariedterrainandcircumstances; and,
  • Followsstandard operating policies and procedures as developed and directedby theCompany.

GENERAL INFORMATION:

Thesupervisormakes assignments in terms ofshiftstobe worked andthe generalscope oftheworkassignment.The incumbentperformstheworkinaccordance withthe procedures, policies and medicalordersprovided.Theincumbentmustexercisejudgmentinapplying the proper guideline to the propersituation.Thework isspotchecked and evaluatedon the basis of feedbackfrom the patient, medicalstaff andothers.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School Diploma or GED Required, Associates Degree or advanced degree preferred
  • Must possess and maintain unrestricted AEMT Louisiana Licensure / National Registry Certification
  • Must possess and maintain CPR for the Health Care Provider (AHA, ASHI, ECSI)
  • Must possess and maintain Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
  • Must be willing to obtain and/or possess and maintain Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
  • Must possess and maintain unrestricted state driver’s license (Louisiana residents must have Class D license).
  • Certification in ISS 005, 100, 200, 700, 800; (300 & 400 preferred but not required);
  • Must have completed CEVO or EVOC upon date of hire (offered during orientation)
  • Good knowledge of thestreet systems,addresses and physical layout of the area, and of the rescue equipmentandtheemergencymedical equipment used inAdvancedLife Support.

    Additionally, incumbents must maintain a high degree ofacademic andpractical knowledge inemergencymedicine,andmustattend sufficient continuing educationclasses, courses, and seminars both onandoffduty to maintainannual certification,as required by thestateinwhich you willbeworking.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to frequently lift, carry, push, or pull objects weighing up to 125 pounds and occasionally up to 250 pounds with assistance.
  • Capability to stand, walk, and sit for extended periods during shifts, which may exceed 12 hours.
  • Ability to kneel, bend, stoop, and twist repeatedly to assist patients and operate equipment.
  • Manual dexterity sufficient to use medical equipment, write reports, and perform CPR.
  • Visual acuity to assess patient conditions, read small print on medical devices, and monitor surroundings during emergency responses.
  • Hearing ability sufficient to understand spoken information in noisy environments, such as sirens or crowded scenes.
  • Stamina to endure high-stress situations, irregular hours, and physical demands of emergency medical care.
  • Capacity to work in varied environmental conditions, including exposure to extreme weather, confined spaces, and potentially hazardous scenes.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

The work requires the incumbent to operate emergency medical vehicles, move medicalequipmentand extractinjuredpersons from a widevarietyof situations. Situation can involvevehicular,industrial and residential accidents, injuries or illness and occur anywhere in ourcoveragearea. At times theworkrequires movement overvarioustypes of terrain,(hilly,steep, rocky, rough,and/orwet/slipperysurfaces).The incumbent at all times must be able to carry or help carrysomeonefrom thesiteof theinjury to the mode of transportation (vehicle/helicopter)and attend the injured partytothe hospital. In order to perform a physical assessment of the injured party, the incumbent mustsee,hear, and communicatewiththe injured party.

Incumbents will be issued and must wear Company issued uniforms while on duty; additionally, incumbents will be responsible for the maintenance and cleaning of uniforms, as well as all issued equipment.

Incumbents are required to carry a company issued pager/radio at all times in order to receive immediate notification of an assignment.
