Job summary

Pafford EMS is seeking a certified EMT/EMT-B with CPR to respond to medical emergencies and provide pre-hospital care. The role requires safe operation of emergency ambulances and coordination with hospital staff to ensure continuity of care.

The incumbent will document patient information, assist in resuscitation and transport patients to appropriate facilities, while adhering to established protocols and maintaining professionalism at all times.

Qualifications

  • EMT/EMT-B certification required and valid state license.
  • CPR certification for Health Care Provider.
  • Ability to drive and operate emergency ambulances.

Responsibilities

  • Recognizes and understands a medical emergency and makes reasonable differential diagnosis.
  • Performs physical examinations.
  • Understands and anticipates potentially life-threatening presentations and institutes emergency therapy where essential for preservation of life.
  • Deals with medical and emotional needs of victims to reduce morbidity and mortality.
  • Files standardized reports of patient information and care for hospital and administration, including nature of request for aid, past history, therapy provided, diagnosis, disposition and billing information.
  • Maintains effective communication with physician on duty at hospital to relate patient condition and obtain orders for treatment.
  • Follows standard written protocols when a physician cannot be contacted.
  • Transports the ill and injured to facilities of medical care.
  • Operates emergency vehicles in a safe manner under all conditions.
  • Assists technical rescues and follows SOPs.
  • Follows standard operating policies and procedures as developed by the Company.

GENERAL INFORMATION

Thesupervisormakes assignments in terms ofshiftstobe worked andthe generalscope ofthework assignment.The incumbentperformstheworkinaccordance withthe procedures, policies and medicalordersprovided.Theincumbentmustexercisejudgmentinapplying the proper guideline to the propersituation.Thework isspotchecked and evaluatedon the basis of feedbackfrom the patient, medicalstaff andothers.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • EMT / EMT-B
  • CPR for the Health Care Provider
  • Good knowledge of thestreet systems,addresses and physical layout of the area, and of the rescue equipmentandtheemergencymedical equipment used inAdvancedLife Support.
  • Good abilityto:
  • Perform technical medicalskills witha high degree of accuracy;
  • Understand and effectivelydeal with emotional and medical needsof victimsof injuries, acute illnesses, orpsychologicalemergencies;
  • Maintaina professionalandobjective approach to thecareof ill or injuredpersons;
  • Learn newconcepts inrescueandmedical skills andtechniques andinpre-hospitalcare;
  • Performavariety oflimited mechanical work involved in the use, testingandmaintenance ofrescue and medicalequipment;
  • Direct the workof,andteachotherpersonnel;
  • Understand andfolloworal and writteninstructionsandorders;
  • Maintain a professionalattitude when representingthe Company;
  • Establishandmaintain effectiveworking relationshipswith other employees,assistingagencies,hospitalpersonnel,and thegeneralpublic;
  • Drive and operateemergencyambulanceunits;and,
  • Authorreportswithnarrativeandnumeric information.
  • Additionally, incumbents must maintain a high degree ofacademic andpractical knowledge inemergencymedicine,andmustattend sufficient continuing educationclasses,courses, and seminars both onandoffduty to maintainannual certification,as required by thestateinwhich you willbeworking.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS

The work requires the incumbent to operate emergency medical vehicles, move medicalequipmentand extractinjuredpersons from a widevarietyof situations. Situation can involvevehicular,industrial and residential accidents, injuries or illness and occur anywhere in ourcoveragearea. At times theworkrequires movement overvarioustypes of terrain,(hilly,steep, rocky, rough,and/orwet/slipperysurfaces).The incumbent at all times must be able to carry or help carrysomeonefrom thesiteof theinjury to the mode of transportation (vehicle/helicopter)and attend the injured partytothe hospital. In order to perform a physical assessment of the injured party, the incumbent mustsee,hear, and communicatewiththe injured party. Incumbents will be issuedandmust wear Companyissueduniforms while on duty; additionally, incumbents will be responsible for the maintenanceandcleaning ofuniforms, as wellasallissuedequipment.

Incumbentsare requiredtocarry a Company issued pager/radio at all times in order to receive immediate notification ofanassignment.
