Job summary

The City of Virginia Beach EMS is seeking an Advanced Emergency Medical Technician (A‑EMT) to deliver basic and advanced life support in the pre‑hospital setting, operate ambulances, determine patient destinations, and document care accurately. Candidates must hold Virginia Certification/NR‑EMT, CPR, a valid driver’s license, and be willing to work rotating shifts.

They must complete the EMS Academy and field training, and meet the department’s disqualifier standards.

Qualifications

• Must be Virginia-certified and/or National Registry EMT or higher.
• Current CPR certification.
• Must be eligible to function as Emergency Medical Vehicle Operator in VA EMS regs.
• Must pass pre-employment physical and other specified screenings.

Responsibilities

• Provide basic and advanced life support in pre-hospital settings.
• Operate emergency ambulances and respond to calls.
• Determine the most appropriate transport destination.
• Complete patient care reports and related documentation on time.
