Job summary

Covenant Health Emergency Medical Services seeks an Advanced Emergency Medical Technician (AEMT) to respond to medical emergencies in pre-hospital and interfacility settings. The role includes triage, initial assessment, and delivering emergency care within scope of practice.

Qualified candidates must hold a TN AEMT license or a valid, unrestricted license from a Compact state, have a valid driver’s license and insurance, and meet Covenant Health standards.

Qualifications

• Two (2) years of experience in EMS or in another healthcare setting preferred.
• Must have and maintain a TN AEMT license OR a valid, unrestricted license in any Compact Member State.
• Employee must have a valid driver’s license and state mandated minimum insurance coverage.
• Driving record must meet Covenant Health minimum standards at the date of hire and throughout employment tenure.

Responsibilities

• Administer epinephrine for anaphylaxis and cardiac arrest, airway management and/or oxygen with BIAD, as approved by the EMS Medical Director.
• Renders necessary emergency care for acute illness or injury, including medical emergencies and traumatic injuries.
• Reports essential information concerning the patient and treatment to the next level of care.
• Utilizes EMS communications for coordination with dispatchers and medical facilities.
• Performs routine vehicle maintenance checks and restocks/cleans vehicle after calls; refuels as needed.
• Adheres to the Covenant Health EMS dress code while on duty.
• Completes required Covenant Health training and EMS in-service training plus state continuing education.
• Local travel required; follows policies and participates in quality improvement initiatives.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Emergency Medical Services Overview:

Covenant Health Emergency Medical Services (EMS) ensures rapid response with specially trained personnel and a fleet of vehicles that are equipped with cutting-edge technology. The Covenant Health EMS team improves patient care and outcomes, supports post-discharge planning, and enhances community engagement. Working closely with all Covenant medical centers as well as several non-Covenant facilities, our EMS team ensures that advanced-level transport options are available when needed.

Position Summary:

The Advanced Emergency Medical Technician (AEMT) is a public safety professional that responds to medical emergencies and other medical transport needs in pre-hospital and interfacility settings. Upon arrival, the AEMT performs triage and initial survey, provides emergency care through careful assessment of the patient, and recognizes injuries and illnesses. The AEMT shall also gain knowledge of pre‑existing medical conditions, previous medications, medical preferences, and identification of the patient.

Responsibilities

• After proper training, the AEMT may administer epinephrine for the treatment of anaphylaxis and cardiac arrest, airway management and/or oxygen administration with a Blind‑Insertion airway device (BIAD), and provide other interventions within their scope of practice as approved by the EMS Medical Director.
• Renders necessary emergency care for acute illness or injury, including medical emergencies, traumatic injury, behavioral health emergencies, or other associated care of chronic comorbid conditions.
• Reports essential information concerning the patient, the patient's medical condition, and treatment to the medical personnel who assume responsibility for continuing care of the patient.
• Utilizes EMS telecommunications for coordination and information exchange with EMS dispatchers, medical facilities, online medical control, and other system users, and conducts radio transmissions appropriately with regard for rules, regulations, and procedures.
• Responsible for routine daily maintenance checks on the vehicle assigned to them and records results on the vehicle maintenance checklist; properly cleans and restocks assigned vehicles after each call; and refuels vehicle (at the designated service stations) after each call or when tank is less than 1/2 full.
• Adheres to the Covenant Health EMS dress code while on duty.
• Completes all mandatory Covenant Health training, mandatory Covenant Health EMS in‑service training, as well as additional independent training to meet State of Tennessee minimal continuing education requirements.
• Local travel required.
• Follows policies, procedures, and safety standards. Completes required education assignments annually. Works toward achieving goals and objectives, and participates in quality improvement initiatives as requested.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Education:

None specified; however, must be sufficient to meet the standards for achievement of the below indicated license and/or certification as required by the issuing authority.

Minimum Experience:

Two (2) years of experience in EMS or in another healthcare setting preferred.
