JOB SUMMARY:

Provide appropriate, efficient, and timely pre-hospital advanced and basic life support care and transportation of the sick and injured in accordance with local, state, national, and Acadian Ambulance standards of practice.

EQUIPMENT:

Ambulance; stretcher; folding stretcher; scoop stretcher; long spine boards and KED; spinal immobilization equipment; radios and computerized communications equipment; splinting devices; suction devices; bandaging materials; oxygen bottles and tubings; basic and advanced airway management devices; intravenous fluid therapy equipment; fire extinguisher; simple extrication devices; simple mechanics tools; blood pressure cuff and stethoscope; patient restraints; simple traction devices; other medical and related equipment items not specifically listed may be added as new items are introduced.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Conduct careful examination of the patient for signs and symptoms of illness/injury and assist other medical personnel as needed.
• Administer prompt and efficient basic and advanced life support care within licensure or certification limits and in accordance with protocols.
• Handle the patient carefully during transport to and from the ambulance.
• Ensure safe and efficient transport of the patient to medical facilities.
• Transfer patient and care information safely to receiving personnel.
• Document all patient condition and treatment details; complete necessary forms and reports.
• Conduct regular inventory and equipment testing to ensure all items are present, clean, and functional.
• Post-transport, ensure ambulance and equipment are cleaned and ready for next use.
• Maintain knowledge of ambulance equipment and proper usage at all times.
• Report needed repairs to maintenance and supervisors.
• In absence of other qualified personnel, use basic extrication tools and control the scene to ensure safety.
• Operate and drive the ambulance safely, following company guidelines and regulations.
• Follow FCC regulations for electronic communications.
• Attend mandatory meetings and complete all assigned duties, including station maintenance.
• Order supplies as needed to replenish inventories.
• Perform station and vehicle cleaning duties.
• Complete all reports and logs accurately and timely.
• If qualified, precept new employees and EMT students.
• Fulfill all EMT qualifications and responsibilities.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• National and/or State certification as an Advanced EMT per state requirements.
• Current CPR certification from the American Heart Association.
• Valid state driver's license (equivalent to Louisiana Class "D").
• Effective communication, writing, and presentation skills.
• Knowledge of protocols, procedures, and safety standards.
• Ability to operate large vehicles in various conditions.

Physical Demands

Must perform strenuous physical tasks, including lifting heavy equipment and patients, performing CPR, water rescues, and navigating dangerous environments.

Must respond quickly, access patients in difficult terrain, climb structures, and work in hazardous environments.

Perform medical skills requiring fine motor control, and have correctable vision and adequate hearing and speech to operate in emergency settings.
