Job summary

Bon Secours Mercy Health seeks an ED Tech Advanced at West Hospital to provide direct patient care under RN guidance. Responsibilities include vital signs, hygiene, transport, and unit-based duties. The role supports CPR readiness, IV care, and various ED-specific tasks.

The position requires a High School diploma or GED and an AEMT program completion (preferred). BLS, AEMT, and CPR certifications are valued, with experience in emergency settings desirable.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED is required.
• Successful completion of an Advanced Emergency Medical Technician (AEMT) through an approved program is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide basic patient care and tasks including care, comfort, vital signs, and hygiene.
• Perform ED Tech Advanced role including IV care, colostomy care, and monitor transport.
• Complete patient rounding and 1:1 safety companion services as needed.
• Report changes and concerns to RN; maintain accurate documentation.
• Participate in handoff reports and complete delegated tasks after competency validation.

ED Tech Advanced - West Hospital

Job Summary:

The ED Tech Advanced provides direct patient care under the guidance of a RN or designated healthcare professional in accordance with federal, state, and local regulations, and within policies, procedures, and guidelines of Bon Secours Mercy Health.

Essential Functions

• Provides basic patient care and tasks to include, but not limited to, care and comfort, vital sign measurement, personal care and hygiene, assists with mobility, performs lab draws, ECG’s, basic wound care, and other unit-based specialty duties under the direction of an RN.
• Performs the ED Tech Advanced role, which includes additional patient care and tasks including, but not limited tocolostomy care, IV insertion, IV removal and IV site care, transport on monitor, identifies need and initiates CPR, foley catheter placement, identifies patients in crises or decline and alerts RN for further assessments, and other unit-based specialty duties base on state and department guidelines under the direction of an RN.
• Completes patient rounding as assigned.
• Provides 1:1 patient safety companion service as needed.
• Acts as liaison between patient and nurse to report changes and concerns.
• Provides high level customer service to all patients, patient's families, community providers, visitors, and employees.
• Provides accurate, precise, timely documentation as applicable to patient care.
• Participates in handoff report of pertinent information regarding patient and departmental needs upon arrival and when leaving.
• Performs delegated tasks once competency has been validated.
• Collects data, within scope.
• Completes patient screenings as applicable.
• Promotes quality and safety by seeking to continually improve the processes and systems to enhance patient care delivery.
• Demonstrates the ability to work independently, problem solve, and be able to resolve conflict while working under considerable stress.
• Maintains knowledge of policies and procedures.
• Other duties as assigned that are deemed necessary for department operations.

Education

• High School Diploma or GED (required)
• Successful completion of an Advanced Emergency Medical Technician (AEMT) through an approved educational program (preferred)

Required Licensing & Certifications

• BLS Basic Life Support (preferred upon hire, must obtain from approved source prior to direct patient care)
• Current certification for Advanced EMT (AEMT) (preferred) (required if employed in the state of South Carolina)

Experience

• 1 year of experience as an LPN, ED Tech, or Advanced EMT (required)
